Community of Hope Caregivers Offer Visits
The Community of Hope pastoral care training will culminate in a commissioning ceremony at Epiphany on March 13. After Community of Hope pastoral caregivers Paul Hinson, Chris Miller, Barbara Belcore, Jessica Burns, Katie Pedersen, Lisa Daily, David Draper, Lisa Gray, Annie Strahan, Laura Gary, and Ann Fowler are commissioned, they will begin their pastoral service. If you would like to receive a pastoral visit by one of the trained caregivers, please contact Ann Fowler at annfowler@me.com. If you have a family member in a care facility or at home whom you would like them to visit, they will do that, too.
Lisa Gray expressed how important the training has been for her in an opening reflection for one of the February Community of Hope meetings:
After these many weeks of study, our Community of Hope (COH) group has become a meaningful part of my life, and each member has become so dear to me. Every day I am thankful for our loving, supportive group. What I’m sharing is a deeply personal take on some concepts we’ve studied in our journey to become pastoral caregivers. Everyone in COH could write something similar to what I’ve written, but every voice would be different. I find that these new concepts are extending into other parts of my life, which must be part of the plan. Because my learned experience with God was always wrapped up in fear and pain, I had always tried to stay away from Him. Now I’m turning to go in a different direction which feels a bit scary, but powerful and necessary.

I’m not a theologian, philosopher, or any kind of scholar, but in an unexpected a-ha moment, the concept that God is already in us struck me hard and deep, and though I feel as if I’m spinning, this understanding is dawning on me as real and true. Nothing of this magnitude has ever happened to me in this way.

Prayer for Ukraine
From Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury

“God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace, for wisdom, discernment, and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.”
Episcopal Relief & Development is supporting Action by Churches Together (ACT Alliance) as it provides critical assistance to support people affected by violence in Ukraine. Working through ACT member Hungarian Interchurch Aid (HIA) and other local organizations, ACT Alliance is providing emergency assistance such as food, shelter, water and basic supplies to refugees and people displaced within Ukraine.

Support Episcopal Relief & Development in providing humanitarian aid in response to the crisis in Ukraine. By donating to the Ukraine Crisis Response Fund, you will help meet critical needs for people fleeing the violence including food, cash, blankets and hygiene supplies.

Exciting News: Afghan Refugee Family is Here!
As part of the Family Friend Program in partnership with New American Pathways, we are excited that we have been matched with a family of five from Afghanistan! All we know right now is that they have three children ages 6, 8, and 11 and will likely live in Stone Mountain, but we will find out more details within the week.
There are many ways to be involved and we need your help. Here are just a few examples of how you can participate:

  • Give money so the family can shop and choose items they need.
  • Donate to provide internet service for the family for school connectivity, virtual tutoring and communications.
  • Help adults or children learn English one day a week for an hour or so, virtually or in person.
  • Help children with their homework one day a week, virtually or in person.
  • Drive family members to medical and other appointments, as needed.
  • Donate/provide a Chrome book or computer for the family and school age children.
  • Check in with the family every week by phone or email.

Once we find out more about their living situation, we will publicize more details and needed items. In order to support the family in also choosing what they like, financial contributions can be made online at https://www.epiphany.org/ways-to-give. Choose “Refugee Ministry” as the fund in Realm, or indicate that in your check memo line.

Please contact Erin Braden or Lisa Daily to find out more and get involved. We would love to have you join this important ministry!
