Contribution and Virtual Offering Plate
We are thankful to parishioners who pledge and are mailing their checks directly to the Transfiguration office, or have set up auto payment from your bank. It is very helpful that we continue income at this time as we seek to create connections to each other and maintain parish life. If you are not a pledger at Transfig, please do use our ‘virtual offering plate’ on the front page of our website to make a contribution to our work as you are able.
Happy Birthday
Morgan Marburger on Sunday (today) and Dan Kearns on Monday.

As we turn the page to a new year, we wanted to report on our Stewardship progress. On behalf of the Vestry, we thank Claudia and all the recipe donors, and others who assisted. With their help, Claudia created an entertaining - and tasty! - Stewardship program, especially given the difficult conditions. As every family and organization did, we faced unprecedented challenges this year, and given the headwinds, our Stewardship campaign numbers look pretty good. It should be no surprise, however, that we fell short of our goal. Consider some of the challenges we face in Stewardship:
- The pandemic has created challenges for all of us, not only financially but also socially
- As we do every year, we lost some members to relocation - this year, the impact has been more severe because we lost a couple of significant donors
- Stewardship has had competition for your dollars from our Capital Campaign, where you've been incredibly generous
- Other deserving organizations are also facing difficult financial challenges and are, very understandably, competing for our charitable giving
- We lost rental income from organizations that use our church
- COVID delayed the opening of our Early Learning Center, which will be a solid contributor to our church finances
Last year, Transfig received $297,000 in pledges. At this point, we have received 56 pledges totaling just over $250,000. We believe we will be receiving additional commitments and hope the total will come in around $270,000, or 90% of last year's drive. The Vestry is meeting next week to finalize the budget for the coming year. Our work must include some belt-tightening, but we are confident we will continue our great programs with our amazing staff this year, which is why we call this Stewardship campaign a success.
For those of you who have not yet returned your pledge cards, please do so by next Wednesday so the Vestry will have a complete picture for budgeting. If anyone believes that they can increase their pledge by even a small amount, we encourage you to do so.
Thank you for your support of Transfig and blessings in 2021.

Michelle McLean, Jr. Warden

Vestry Nominations
Would you like to serve on the Vestry? Do you know someone you would like to nominate to serve?
Nominations are now open for four Vestry positions which will be elected at our annual meeting in February. Vestry members serve for three years, meeting once a month and often serving on a subcommittee focusing on a particular interest or need.
Please consider nominating yourself as well as others. This is a time to not only serve our community but, also, a time to get to know other members of the parish, and to enjoy dialog and friendship as you work together to move our parish forward. Speak to any member of our Nominating Committee to nominate someone or to learn more about serving.Nominating Committee: Michele Charles, Claudia Dierkes-Banks, John Marburger and Mees Tielens
Deanery Nominations
Nominations are also open for Deanery representatives. There are four positions open, and an opportunity for four alternates. The term is for one year. Deanery representatives meet four times
a year and get to know about other parishes in the area, and in addition represent our parish as a delegate at Diocesan Convention in October. Our current Deanery Representatives are Matthew Burt, Noelle Chard, Aidan Jobe Sea and Stacy Ryan. Mees Tielens serves as an alternate rep.

Book Review:
“The way of love is essential for addressing the seemingly insurmountable challenges facing the world today: poverty, racism, selfishness, deep ideological divisions, competing claims to speak for God. This book will lead readers to discover the gifts they need in order to live the way of love: deep reservoirs of hope and resilience, simple wisdom, the discipline of nonviolence, and unshakable regard for human dignity.”
To purchase the book at Reach and Teach, a local independent bookstore in San Mateo.

Joyful Noise Storytellers Needed
Storytellers are needed to share the favorite stories of our faith for our Joyful Noise families. No storytelling experience is needed, just a desire to share a story with our families. The stories and scripts are provided for you. You can record your story ahead of time or tell your story live during the Joyful Noise service at 9:15am on Sundays. Storytelling is a great family activity—let your children tell the story with you. Please take a look at the calendar and add your name to tell your favorite story at Joyful Noise, Joyful Noise Storyteller Sign Ups. Contact Michele Maia, michele@transfig-sm.org with any questions or help with recording your story. Everyone is invited to join us on Sundays at 9:15 for Joyful Noise!

We hope that the Christmas Eve services were meaningful for you and your family and that the gift of the pre-consecrated communion@home made the celebration extra special.
To assist in future offering of pre-consecrated communion, we welcome the return of the pyx (metal container) which will be sanitzed for re-use. Please drop it off at your convenience by depositing it in the "dropbox" located in front of Memorial Garden entrance doors to the church. Thanks!
