Automated Trash Set to Begin Tuesday, August 11th

The City of Pawtucket's Department of Public Works, Mayor Donald R. Grebien, and the Pawtucket City Council are excited to announce the implementation of citywide automated trash collections beginning Tuesday, August 11th. Anticipated delivery of carts is July 31st.

"Automated trash is an opportunity to improve the services to the residents," said Director of Public Works Eric Earls. "There are many benefits to automated collections that our residents will see, including one heavy-duty bin per residential unit which will help mitigate loose trash blowing around our neighborhoods and reduce access to trash for animals, a reduction in contamination of recycling with trash due to color-coded bins, and durable wheeled bins that tend to be easier for residents to take out and back in from the curb than traditional carried trash cans."

"We ask that you work with us as we implement this automated process together. If you have any questions or concerns about the bins or process, reach out to our Department," continued Earls.

Neighborhood Task Force Program to Tackle Quality of Life Issues
Asking Neighborhood Residents to Come be Certified to Cite Properties

The City of Pawtucket's Division of Zoning and Code Enforcement, Mayor Donald R. Grebien, and the Pawtucket City Council have announced the reinstitution of the Neighborhood Task Force Program. The initiative will certify volunteer residents to assist the Code Enforcement Division in citing properties that are blighted, rundown, decayed, or not adhering to City codes and ordinances.

"All the residents of Pawtucket deserve to live in clean environments and maintained neighborhoods," said Mayor Grebien. "The City recognizes that there are quality of life concerns in some of our neighborhoods, and the community needs your help. Working together, the City will work to get ahead on identifying the problem properties in our streets and enforcing the standards."

The Department of Zoning and Code Enforcement continues to cite properties not up to code with City requirements, though court cases have been backed up due to the coronavirus pandemic. This program will allow residents to be certified to anonymously cite any property not adhering to the City codes and ordinances. This will help to improve the environment and combat the statewide increase of rodents.

Reed, Whitehourse, & Cicilline Announce $230K Grant to Support Joint Economic Development Plan for Pawtucket and Central Falls

Unveiling of Conant Thread District in 2018

U.S. Senator Jack Reed, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, and Congressman David Cicilline today announced that the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded the cities of Pawtucket and Central Falls a $230,000 grant to create a joint economic development action plan.

Both Pawtucket and Central Falls are former industrial powerhouses that welcomed waves of immigrants over the past two centuries. The funding from the EDA's Economic Adjustment Assistance Program will be used to develop a detailed economic development plan to guide future growth in the two cities and examine existing workforce strengths and needs. The plan will include a feasibility study for the creation of a new workforce training and innovation center. The grant will also allow the cities to explore options for redeveloping a vacant 12-acre lot that was formerly the site of the Osram Sylvania lightbulb factory in Central Falls.
