Although we can't meet in person this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we're looking forward to our 2020 virtual annual meeting.

Below are important updates on the  technology that'll be used,  schedule, and training and orientation opportunities to ensure all delegates will be prepared to fully participate.

Zoom
The annual meeting will be held virtually via  Zoom . It is highly recommended that delegates  sign up  for an account and use it to  log in to Zoom
  • Zoom Survival Guide for the Annual Meeting - This will give you an overview of what to expect.
    • Please ensure you are using your first and last name followed by your LMSC (e.g., Jenny Freestyle - Florida) while participating in meetings held in conjunction with the annual meeting.
  • Zoom links have been provided within the schedule for delegates and attendees to join committee meetings in conjunction with the annual meeting.
  • Customized Zoom links will be sent directly to voting delegates for meetings of the House of Delegates at a designated date in the future.
    • Attendees will be able to watch HOD sessions via a live streaming platform, such as YouTube. More details to come.
Schedule
Meetings of the House of Delegates will take place Sept. 25-27. Committee meetings in conjunction with the annual meeting will take place Aug. 30-Sept. 24 and will be open to all delegates and attendees who would like to participate. The complete schedule of meetings and sessions of the House of Delegates can be found online on the  2020 annual meeting schedule page.
  • Virtual schedule managerGiven the virtual nature of the annual meeting, USMS will offer a virtual calendar through Sched, which will allow our delegates and attendees to explore meetings and sessions, build their own schedule, register for meetings, learn about speakers, and discover who'll be attending sessions. It is recommended that you sign up for an account and use it to log in to Sched to bookmark your favorites, indicate your plans to attend, and/or sync meeting details to your phone or calendar.
    • We've put together this guide to help you navigate through using the Sched functionality.

The History and Archives Committee is encouraging LMSCs to capture local USMS Experiences

Foot in the pool
The year of COVID-19 has totally altered how we are conducting our lives. Long after it's gone, we'll be telling tales of what it was like during the pandemic. We're working on a program to expand the archives of USMS by having LMSCs, clubs and members share their events, accomplishments, meets and individual experiences. We especially want to hear how you weathered the pandemic. We are inviting the USMS family to document their COVID-19 experience in words and pictures. Photos, videos and anecdotal stories of where you found water, how you missed your routine, how you stayed connected to teammates or anything that you feel expresses how you made it through this crazy year are welcome.

The 2020 Toyota USMS Virtual Championships powered by Swim.com offer a great opportunity to document our strange year. The Championships will be a chance for members to remember their competitive urges, submit times and take the pulse of their swimming status. Take a moment to capture the events. Compilations of the stories can then be shared by LMSCs and clubs through their communication platforms, including websites, e blasts, newsletters, social media, and Flickr galleries.

For more information or questions please contact the History and Archives Committee Chair.
Got a Story Idea? Let Us Know!
We want to hear from you!
We're always looking for great stories about our members for SWIMMER and our website.

If you or someone you know would make for an interesting story, please submit the idea to our article idea collector. We're interested in members who would make for great profiles, questions about training and technique, science-related topics, and personal essays about what swimming means to you.

Freelance writers can also make their story pitches in our article idea collector
USMS COVID-19 Relief Program for Clubs
Mt. Hood Aquatic Center Gresham Oregon
USMS's Board of Directors has approved up to $250,000 in matching grant funds that LMSCs may use to support local clubs' efforts to restart Masters programs when safe and appropriate. LMSCs are asked to consider creating a relief fund to provide grants to clubs in their LMSC to make use of the matching grants from USMS.

Please review the USMS COVID-19 Relief Program for Clubs page in addition to the  USMS COVID-19 Relief Program's matching grant framework for clubs  and discuss the best approach within your LMSC.
