As of 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22, Calhoun County has a cumulative total of 451 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to Calhoun County Public Health Department (CCPHD), with a total of 30 deaths attributed to the virus. This information is updated once daily, Monday through Friday, at  www.calhouncountymi.gov .

Positive Outlook from Negative Results
It is important for all in Calhoun County to remember that we are still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, without a vaccination or cure developed yet, the only tool in our tool box to combat this virus is to follow these three protections:

  • Wear a face covering in public, indoor spaces – each person wearing a mask protects the other people around them.
  • Social distance, with at least six feet between people in different households.
  • Frequently wash your hands, for at least 20 seconds.

“We know the steps we've taken thus far are working because we see positive trends in the data,” said Kelli Scott, County Administrator/Controller. “We recognize how frustrating these changes to normalcy can be. When our actions are successful, it's easy to feel like we overreacted. But that feeling means that what we are doing is working and we must continue.”

The Calhoun County Public Health Department received only one lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 test result from the Battle Creek mass-testing event in June, and only two additional cases countywide over this last weekend.

This is positive news and should encourage residents to continue the three critical actions above, so that the positive trend continues.

“We don’t want to see our data jump to thousands of new positive cases per day, as we are seeing in some other states right now,” said Eric Pessell, Calhoun County Health Officer. “ The virus can surge again if conditions are right and we get lax in following the three protections
