To support your work, we will be hosting a Strategy Institute designed for student support professionals in Detroit!

DCAN STRATEGY INSTITUTE
Registration open for the Aug. 11-13 virtual conference
The DCAN Strategy Institute will support schools and organizations with workshops focused on developing a college-going culture, student support/resources, and college access and success.

  • When: August 11-13
  • Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST (each day)
  • Where: Virtual conference (must register)
  • Cost: FREE!
  • SCECHs: Earn up to 11 credits
  • Over 30 workshops to choose from!
  • College Application Month
  • Senior data tracker
  • College Board SAT/Khan Academy
  • Parent engagement
  • Homeless youth
  • Senior college checklist
  • Colleges and university breakouts
  • Military and trade skills breakouts
  • And so much more!

Each school or organization must register three or more representatives. There will be strategy time daily just for teams with an electronic strategy workbook to develop plans for the upcoming academic year.

Teams will also have the  opportunity to win up to $1,000 for program ideas each day !

Along with daily opportunities to win raffles for attendance, engage with other professionals throughout the city in forums and video chats, teams will build individual strategies and systems for the year.

and other key stakeholders!

Reminder: At least three representatives are required to attend for participation! Teams will be notified once the minimum has been reached and registration is complete.

Wish your students knew about the power of networking? Have them join us to learn how to make more connections in this workshop! We'll help students make meaningful relationships in high school, college and workforce.

Navigating Student Profiles & Portals
August 13, 3 p.m.
Are your students unsure about what they should be doing before fall classes start? In this workshop, we'll explore their college student profiles and the list of administrative tasks for them to accomplish such as setting up their student email account, financial aid, class builder and more.

Utilizing Resources: Financial & Support Tools
August 20, 3 p.m.
Do your students need more support for their first semester of college? Have them join us to learn more about all of the resources on their campus. This workshop will cover financial aid, the student learning center, tutoring, office hours, advising, study skills and more.

Citywide SAT prep coming this fall

Students can choose from a one-day SAT bootcamp or a three-week SAT course. Details forthcoming!

1-ON-1 VIRTUAL ADVISING
Virtual Advising

Your students can meet with an experienced coach to support with mapping out their plans, completing requirements, navigating documentation submission and getting on track to reach their college/career goals.

Challenge Detroit looking for community leaders

The Challenge Detroit Community Leader Fellow track is one of three ways candidates can apply to be a fellow. CLF candidates are currently employed in the community space—they are either working at a nonprofit organization or in a community-facing role in a for-profit company in the Metro Detroit area and have a minimum of a high school diploma/GED and relevant work experience.

Points of Light Youth Summit

On August 19, Points of Light will hold the annual  Youth Summit  – and this year it’s virtual! We know you have a dynamic and amazing community of Gen Z changemakers and would like to invite you to reserve spots for up to 25 of them.
 
Gen Z civic leaders can put their best ideas forward to reengage and rebuild the civic ecosystem in the i mpact grant contest.
  • Registrants can apply on behalf of their school or community organization via video. 5 winners of $1,000 grants will be announced.

"Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Michigan’s legislative leaders extended the Tuition Incentive Program (TIP) Wednesday, a program that provides free tuition at community colleges and $500 per semester toward a bachelor’s degree for qualifying low-income students in Michigan."
CollegeSpring hiring a Detroit instructional coach

The instructional coach supports a portfolio of partner schools by training and coaching teachers and managing partner relationships to deliver a high-quality CollegeSpring program.

  • The instructional coach believes that impact on students is possible through supporting dedicated and capable teachers.
  • Instructional coaches work collaboratively with members of the Partner Success Team and the Programs and Impact team.
  • Please note that this position is remote.
  • CollegeSpring does not have an office in Detroit.
  • Regular travel to schools is an expectation of the job (in accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Detroit Public Schools).
