The Children's Trust Announces

Third Family Expo Pop-Up at HistoryMiami on Saturday in Downtown *
The Children’s Trust will be holding its third Family Expo event, The Children’s Trust Family Expo at Family Fun Day, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., this Saturday, September 18, at HistoryMiami Museum, 101 W. Flagler Street. Trust-funded providers and other exhibitors specializing in children's learning, parenting, education, health, as well as physical, mental and social-emotional wellness will have booths. The Family Expo events are free and also feature entertainment and food. For more details click below.

Second TRIM Public Hearing Coming Sept. 20 *
The Children’s Trust will be holding its second and final TRIM hearing to adopt its millage rate and budget for 2021-2022; a public hearing to adopt the taxes and budget will be held on Monday, September 20, 5:01 p.m.

SPARK Training to Start the School Year
The Children's Trust is sponsoring a SPARK (Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids) training that will be provided in person in September. The training is for contracted Youth Development K-5 providers using SPARK curriculum for fitness.

NEW Online Course! Promoting Father Involvement in Parenting Programs *
Involving fathers in parenting programs has positive effects on children’s learning and social-emotional development. However, in some instances, it can be difficult to recruit fathers or father figures into services and keep them engaged. In this course, you will learn about diverse family structures, including the importance of using an inclusive definition of "father"’ You will also learn practical strategies to recruit, engage, support and retain fathers and father figures in services. 

This online training course is available on Trust Academy and is appropriate for family service direct program staff and administrators.

Communities of Practice for Parenting Program providers are back up and running! Join a community where members support one another, share best practices and deepen their knowledge. All of the following CoPs are currently being offered virtually and are appropriate for direct service providers and supervisors of Parenting Programs. If you have any questions or would like additional support, please contact teamcoach@miami.edu.

We know that this uncertain time may be challenging and overwhelming for providers. We believe that, as a community, we have the strength to support one another. During this time, our CoPs will contain extra discussion surrounding COVID-19 and the impact it’s having on your programs, relationships with families, etc.

Parent and Provider Stressors & Barriers - This CoP will be held on the first Wednesday of each month from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. In this CoP, we will discuss the stressors and barriers that both you as a provider, and the families you serve, face. We will also be identifying solutions, practicing these strategies and discussing the implementation of them into your practice. Click here to sign up or log in to Trust Academy!

Creating Support Networks & Community Outreach/Recruitment - This CoP will be held on the first Thursday of each month from 10-11 a.m. In this CoP, we will work collaboratively to create networks of outreach and referrals across parenting providers in the community and discuss program recruitment strategies. You will have the opportunity to get to know other community providers, share information, and support one another. Virtual recruitment will be an ongoing topic. Special Session! The New Normal: Returning to In-Person Services during COVID-19 (Part II)
This CoP will be held on Thursday, September 9, from 9:30-11 a.m. via Zoom. In this CoP, we will work collaboratively to share ideas and problem-solve strategies for returning to in-person services for group-based, home-based, and office-based parenting services. We will discuss recruitment, communication, and safety strategies for your staff and participants. Come prepared to share your agency’s ideas to help all programs successfully serve the community. DLI is *required* for all certified literacy teachers and is recommended for all staff involved in literacy activities.

The Advocacy Network on Disabilities Training Opportunities
Wednesday, September 22, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
Navigating Community Resources – Unsure what’s available or where to find help for children with disabilities and their families? Join us for an introduction to the most helpful resources, and learn how to assist families navigate these systems of care.

To receive credit, participants must be present throughout the training with their cameras on, and achieve 80% on the learning assessment. Zoom access information provided upon registration.

Prefer an on-site training? Contact your Inclusion Specialist or Pat Donovan at pdonovan@advocacynetwork.org to schedule a training at your site for up to 20 participants. We are currently offering the following two on-site trainings:

Count Me In: Discovering Inclusion for Kids - Learn fun, meaningful activities to do with your summer camp students to build their disability awareness and encourage them to appreciate differences.

Structures for Success - Youth both with and without disabilities can behave in challenging ways. Learn the seven basic needs youth exhibit and take away strategies for meeting these needs through positive, preventive approaches. This training is especially relevant to YEN and YAS Providers.

FREE Parenting Program with Federation of Families
The Triple P Parenting Program is for parents with children who have mild to moderate behavioral issues and are under the age of 12 years old. The Program consists of 10 free, 1 hour, parenting sessions with a Triple P Parent Educator from FOF. Parents will learn and practice the skills necessary to tackle behavioral challenges with various strategies implemented from the evidence-based Triple P curriculum. Sessions are provided in English or Spanish, at home or virtual.
