To our Sport for Life champions,

There’s never been a better time to start something new. As vaccines roll out across the country and Canadians prepare to re-engage with their communities, there will be ample opportunities for both quality sport and physical literacy initiatives. It’s time for people to connect again, to move and be active together, and to enjoy all the health benefits that come with that. We can’t wait to play our role in making that happen.

In this newsletter you’ll find a Q&A with the New York Road Runners about being one of the earliest adopters of PLAYBuilder, as well as a story about how Kamloops is welcoming newcomers with an innovative Youth Sports Night. You can find opportunities to check out some of our virtual offerings, including the Quality Sport for Communities and Clubs workshop, and the Physical Literacy 101 course. Also, you can find out about National Health and Fitness Day, which takes place on June 5.
Quality Sport for Communities and Clubs goes virtual

The Quality Sport for Communities and Clubs (QSCC) workshop initiative began last year with a multi-city tour to mobilize knowledge and best practices, and has evolved into a virtual opportunity that will be shared with communities all across the country. With additional learning facilitators trained, newly created online modules planned, and provincial partners who have embraced implementation, organizers are thrilled to be entering the next phase of delivery this spring.

PLAYKamloops reaches out to newcomers

Of the approximately 100,000 people who live in Kamloops, around 10 per cent are new immigrants. Of that population, 30% are in the low income bracket. So when the working group from the City of Kamloops came together with PLAYKamloops and their community partners, these numbers were on their minds.

That’s when they started the Youth Sports Night for New Canadians.

PLAYBuilder Q&A with New York Road Runners

The New York Road Runners contributed to the development of PLAYBuilder and were one of the earliest adopters of the tool. Sport for Life reached out to Manager of Youth Development Stephanie Herrick to learn how the platform has supported their unique programming.

National Health and Fitness Day coming up on June 5

Get ready to show off your moves, Canada!

Coming up on June 5, National Health and Fitness Day (NHFD) is the best way to cope with COVID-19 fatigue. Following the success of last year’s first ever virtual event, as well as Winter Health and Fitness Week earlier this year, the latest event is challenging people coast to coast to get moving, feel good, and share the joy of the outdoors.

Introducción a la Alfabetización Física

In addition to PLAYBuilder, Sport for Life offers a number of eLearning courses, providing informative discussions relating to physical literacy and inclusive sport. This month we're featuring our Introduction to Physical Literacy course, now available in Spanish!

This course introduces the concept of physical literacy, provides information about how we learn to move, and identifies the key elements of a supportive physical literacy environment.

Virtual PL101 Workshop Launches!

Sport for Life is delighted to share that we are now offering our most popular workshop virtually: Physical Literacy 101: An Introduction to Physical Literacy.

This workshop is a key offering of Sport for Life, integrated into many past and current projects and widely requested from coast to coast. The pivot from an in-person to a virtual delivery is complete and we anticipate a surge of interest, which we are thrilled about!
