By Ross Forman - Jeremy Langbein and his Notre Dame College Prep teammates are motivated by the misery of the 2019-2020 season. The Dons finished last in the 11-team Chicago Catholic Hockey League this past season, with a 1-17-2 record and only 4 points. The team's lone league win was a 2-1 overtime victory over Fenwick last Nov. 24 in Mount Prospect. Langbein scored the game-winning goal and assisted on the team's other goal, scored by Andreas Zorn. Langbein finished the season with 3 goals, 5 assists in 19 league games. "It obviously wasn't the season we wanted or expected. Getting three wins and two ties wasn't too fun," said Langbein, 17, who lives in Chicago and skates in jersey No. 15. READ MORE>>

Some might add that you "have to be in a dark room for a couple of days" or others would comment that you "cannot look at a TV, computer or phone at all." My favorite is the advice to "not think" after concussion, although I have yet to figure out how that is actually accomplished. These ideas are quite prevalent in the lay public and even in the medical community. The problem with these recommendations is that none of them were based on empirical data.

Ask any concussion specialist and they will tell you the misinformation about rest and when to return to activity is the most frequent problem they encounter. The value of rest is so ingrained in everyone's mindset that it's almost heretical to say that it is the wrong approach, but I am here to tell you that strict rest post-concussion is, in fact, the wrong approach.
