Welcome back everyone! This week in STEAM we had such a great time playing with and learning about robots-- how they are coded, programmed, and what we can use them for.

Morah Aviva's ECE4 class was busy getting their puffy snowman ready to be hung on their bulletin board for their winter unit. The students also had a great time making baby Moshe sock puppets which will be placed in baskets that our friends are getting ready to create in honor of Parashat Shemot. Stay tuned for the basket.

Students in Morah Tsippi's ECE2 class had a great time this week exploring all the different parts of the Magical Forest and enjoying the sunny weather. A class favorite? The Teepee Village!

Mrs. Gelman's 6th grade Chumash class is finishing up their study of Az Yashir, the song that Moshe and Bnei Yisrael sang after they crossed the sea. Each student was assigned one small section of the shira (song) and spent time creating a slide with a translation as well as some images that connected to the interpretation. Middle schoolers in Mr. Duke's inaugural Furniture Design Explo have sketched out their first set of design plans, and on January 6, learned how to use a thickness planer to dimension timber for their builds. The students' first project is to construct a box, made of exotic hardwoods and featuring hand-cut dovetail joinery.

While learning Perek (chapter) 12 in King 1, Mrs. Pollak’s 8th grade Navi class split into 2 factions; From now on - all of Israel will be split into 2 kingdoms, the House of Judah/Benjamin and the 10 other tribes.

Sources of Strength (the high school mental health advocacy group that aims to spread hope, help, and strength) is focusing on the theme "Healthy Activities" for the month of January. Check out their healthy activities calendar above and a flyer with additional instructions linked here.

Art projects celebrating trees and nature are underway in the art department. The upper school has been creating watercolor creations inspired by leaves and flowers while first grade began creating ceramic trees, and ECE4 began paintings. The students have been excited to put their own personal twists on their artwork.

Students in Ori Friedmann's 7th and 8th grade Hebrew class learned about Hebrew Language Day in honor of Eliezer Ben Yehuda, a Hebrew lexicographer and newspaper editor who was the driving force behind the revival of the Hebrew language in the modern era. The students made special slang posters to hang and decorate the halls.
