Hybrid Instructional Model

Students that chose in-person will be divided into either an A or B group.   Group A will attend in-person on Monday and Tuesday while Group B will be at home participating/learning through CANVAS.

Group B would attend in-person on Thursday and Friday each week while Group A will be at home participating/learning through CANVAS.

Who is in group A and B?   Our district is working in conjunction with our KY Dept. of Education to group our students across the district according to all students in the household.   This grouping will be occurring over the next few weeks.  We will be notifying families the week prior to school starting of what group students are assigned.

Virtual Instructional Model

Students that chose the full virtual instructional model will have their same schedule as if they were in-person here on campus.   All of our teachers will be incorporating the virtual students into their classroom activities.  There will be opportunity to interact with your teachers on a limited basis with the goal of the student and teacher touching base once a week.

Initially, we were going to use Edgenuity but all high schools in our district have decided embed the virtual students into the regular classroom.
Lunch Changes

If students have their school ID from last year or any year prior within the Boone County Schools, we are asking them to use this each day to scan to bring up their lunch account.  To lessen the spread of germs, our lunch code keypad will not be utilized.

If a student can't locate their student ID from previous school years, our cafeteria staff will make a lamented bar code for students to use.

Our cafeteria space will look different with individual student desks in order to accommodate the social distancing protocols.  Students will be assigned a student desk for lunch in order for us to provide contact tracing measures.

First Day of School

The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 25th.  This date is tentative based on information and updates surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.   We look forward to another great school year here at Coope even though we are experiencing unprecedented circumstances.  It's hard to believe this will begin our 13th year!   We are busy preparing in anticipation of August 25th.

NKU School Based Scholars Program

Students that are in the School Based Scholars Program through NKU need to be aware NKU's first day of school is Monday, August 17th.

NKU campus and online classes (even those courses that have been switched to online that are normally taken in-person at Cooper) - classes start on August 17. Students in online courses or on campus are still expected to attend/participate in their classes that week.

Dual credit classes taught by Cooper teachers will start the same day as Boone County Schools start date of August 25.

For classes that are taught at the high school (face-to-face with an NKU faculty or with Cooper teachers), NKU is extending the deadline to withdraw and still be able to get 100% tuition reimbursement to September 1 The other deadlines will remain as they are (last day to add/last day for 50% refund).

Congrats to SBDM Minority Parent

Congratulations to Carmen Salama on being selected as our SBDM minority parent representative for the 2020-2021 school year.

Thanks to LaDonna Nelson for also stepping forward to serve in this role as well.

Laptop for School

Every student is encouraged to bring a personal device, other than a cell phone, for the 2020-2021 school year. Teachers will continue to utilize our online learning management system (Canvas) to provide students with a blended learning model of teaching and learning to best meet the needs of all students. Many resources such as math textbooks and other resources across content areas will be uploaded for students to access on Canvas via a laptop or chromebook. Students and teachers will continue to integrate and use technology to enhance learning and provide students with the skills needed to be college, career, and life ready.

The Boone County School District and Cooper High School are not recommending what type of device to purchase for your student(s). With costs varying widely among types of devices, brand, and capabilities we encourage you to research and discuss what device will best meet the needs and interests of your student. For further guidance and suggestions,  click here.

We do have a limited number of chromebooks in each classroom should a student need one to use.

Camp Jaguar-Date Change

Camp Jaguar for our incoming freshmen has been tentatively set for Friday, August 21st from 8:00-12:00 noon.

This will be a great day for your freshman student to feel more comfortable about high school, build friendships, find their classes, open their locker, opportunities to get involved and many other essential things to make the transition to Cooper as smooth as possible!  Students are paired with their Freshman Mentoring Group and Leader and they can't wiat to show you around Cooper and get to know you!  This group will be together throughout the school year during J.A.M. (Jaguar Achievement & Mentoring) time.

Due to Covid-19, we are looking at three options for Camp Jag.

1) Hopefully, we can have our normal, in-person, Camp Jag where you will meet your mentors, tour Cooper, find your locker, and even learn about school spirit at Cooper before having lunch. This event involves ALL freshmen joining us at RCHS from 8 am to noon.

2) We realize option one might not be possible, but are going to try hard to have something at Cooper. Our second option will involve each JAM room coming in at a different time.  You will be assigned a time to join us at Cooper according to your third period class.  You will still meet your mentors, tour Cooper, find your locker, learn about school spirit and enjoy lunch with your mentors.  This option will allow us to still meet together while practicing safe social distancing.

3) If we are unable to meet in person, we still plan on having Camp Jag virtually on Friday, August 21st.  With this option, our FMPs will be producing a video highlighting school expectations, providing a virtual tour of the school and concluding with a virtual meeting with your mentors and class.

We would LOVE it if you could join us! Please register below if you are able to make it as well as providing us with some information to help make the day possible!

Please take a moment to register your freshman student at the link below so we can adequately plan for those attending.  Students receive a free t-shirt as well as lunch.

Dress Code Change

We have a minor dress code change for the upcoming school year as it pertains to shorts.  Shorts can now be mid-thigh/finger tip length instead of the previous knee length.

Click here to view the complete dress code including the change/update that you will find in red.

ACT Testing Site

All high schools within the Boone County Schools has decided not to host the administration of the ACT on Saturdays through the end of the year.  This does not mean this test is not available to take. There could be other locations in our area that are hosting/administering the ACT test that you could register for.  For locations, please visit the ACT website.
Background Check

Parents and extended families members that would like to chaperon or volunteer at the school for any event will need a background check completed each school year.   The cost is $10 and checks should be made payable to Cooper High School.

Summer Assignments

All students have a recommended summer assignment connected with their English class.  There may be additional assignments associated with honors and/or AP courses.   For more information and details, visit our website or click here.

***If your child has signed up for honors and/or AP courses,  we can guarantee they are in these courses unless one of our counselors have contacted you.

Student Drivers

For students that are interested in driving to school, Click here to open our parking policy and requirements.   A driver's license is required to purchase a parking permit.  There are plenty of parking spots for students to purchase throughout the school year as they get their license. If you meet the requirements, please fill out the areas on the parking form and turn in during our payment of fees and schedule-up day on Tuesday, August 6th.

Parking across the street on Kroth Lane, Alson Place and Hawk's Landing subdivisions are strictly prohibited.  A county ordinance restricts on-street parking from 8:00-3:00 p.m. during school days.

We will have designated areas for each grade level; seniors with the parking spaces closest, juniors next and then sophomores.  You can only purchase a parking pass if you have your license.   There are plenty of parking spots for students throughout the school as they become eligible and receive their license.
