Dear Roslyn Families,
Please be advised that another student at East Hills Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, the class has been instructed to switch over to remote learning for 10 days, effective tomorrow. Since our classes are held in contained pods, and students have no interaction with the school population at large, it has been determined that this case does not warrant a school building closure. Outside contact tracing is presently being conducted by the Nassau County Department of Health (NCDOH), who will determine if anyone who had close contact with this individual will need to be quarantined. I ask that any family who is advised to quarantine by the NCDOH continue to be diligent during the quarantine period to minimize their exposure to others.
The cases being reported to us this week have all been spread through contact outside of our school buildings. Playdates, dinner parties, and other types of gatherings are how this virus is spreading. If this continues, we will be unable to keep our schools open. At this time, I urge everyone to secure their plan for child care in case we are left with no choice but to switch to full remote learning throughout the district.
In case I haven't said it enough times, I'm going to say it again, if your child is sick, DO NOT SEND THEM TO SCHOOL. If they have a runny nose, a sore throat, or any other symptom, you must keep them home and see your medical provider. One sick student compromises their entire class, our faculty, and other essential staff members.
COVID-19 cases are on the rise and your conduct will determine if we will be able to keep our schools open. Please do the right thing for everyone, which means don't gather with people outside your household and don't send your children to school if they are sick.
