Ebner Elementary School
conducts evacuation drill
Jeff Blake and Bill Pfeffer discuss drill as emergency personnel observe evacuation drill.
An emergency evacuation drill was recently held at Ebner Elementary School as part of Ebner's Safe Schools Emergency Plan and the District's ongoing school safety planning. The drill was conducted in collaboration with Logan Township Emergency Management, Logan Township Police Department, Logan Township United Fire Department, Pennsylvania State Police, AASD Police Services, and Logan Township Public Works.

The drill was led by Logan Township EMC Jeff Blake. This type of drill is an important part of the emergency planning, but is also one that takes a lot of planning and preparation. It involves emergency services who would be called upon in the event of an emergency requiring a full scale evacuation. It gives the building staff an opportunity to review the plan and it gives emergency personnel a chance to evaluate the plan from their perspective.

"This type of drill takes a lot of preparation and planning," said AASD Police Services Director Bill Pfeffer. "The feedback and expertise of our emergency services departments is vital to the process of keeping our students safe in the event of an emergency. Dr. Douglas-Kline did a great job preparing all those who were involved." The District plans to conduct similar full-scale evacuation drills in addition to the regular drills held throughout the school year.

As school begins to wind down for the year, we would be remiss in not recognizing the outstanding efforts of the Mt. Echo staff. In spite of the challenges of COVID, they continued to report on a variety of engaging topics covering all areas.

Congratulations to advisor Wanda Vanish and her Mt. Echo staff for their accomplishments this year which included several SNO awards, selection and participation in the Josten's monthly podcast for May, Josten's May Podcast, senior week activities, six staff members inducted into the National Scholastic Press Association Honor Roll, and a Silver Crown (one of 8 in the country) Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
