DC Land Acknowledgment
We would like to begin by respectfully acknowledging that Dufferin County resides within the traditional territory and ancestral lands of the Tionontati (Petun), Attawandaron (Neutral), Haudenosaunee (Six Nations), and Anishinaabe peoples.
We also acknowledge that various municipalities within the County of Dufferin reside within the treaty lands named under the Haldimand Deed of 1784 and two of the Williams Treaties of 1818: Treaty 18: the Nottawasaga Purchase, and Treaty 19: The Ajetance Treaty.
These traditional territories upon which we live and learn, are steeped in rich Indigenous history and traditions. It is with this statement that we declare to honour and respect the past and present connection of Indigenous peoples with this land, its waterways and resources.

Waterloo Region is one of the top 10 fastest-growing communities in Canada, with our population now surpassing 624,000 residents. That growth comes with costs – most noticeably a lack of affordable housing options.
Tackling the issue of affordable housing is the goal of Union Co-operative, a new local initiative working on a unique approach to creating affordable housing. While non-profit housing co-ops have a long tradition in Canada, Union Co-operative is creating permanent affordable housing by purchasing a property that will offer affordable housing units. Unlike traditional non-profit co-ops, members of the co-operative can invest up to $10,000 and receive dividends from those investments.

On behalf of the Choices Board of Directors, this is to advise that Althea Alli has moved on from her position as Director of Choices. We thank Althea for her work and we wish her success in her future endeavours.
Please join us in welcoming Kenneth Paynter as the Acting Director to carry on the management of Choices. Ken is a Dufferin resident and brings with him many years of experience in the housing and homelessness sector supporting vulnerable populations. Through this transitional time, Ken has the complete support of the Board, and will be focused on advancing the long term vision of Choices. As an organization we are committed to ensuring that community members have access to quality services and that our staff are well supported. We will be providing more information on the organization structure and changes in the coming month. Until then, we expect that the work will continue and will be seamless for everyone, partners, staff and clients alike.

It is the responsibility of every Canadian and every organization to work toward reconciliation. To move toward a better, more equitable future, it is imperative for Canadians to understand past and present injustices committed against Indigenous peoples and what needs to change.
