District 3 Runoff Early Voting Begins Tomorrow |
In District 3, no candidate received more than half of the votes cast in the May 1 General Election. There will be a runoff between the two candidates receiving the largest number of votes: Ed Moore and PC Mathew.
The runoff date is Saturday, June 5, with early voting from Monday, May 24, through Tuesday, June 1. Early voting will be available at South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd., and Dallas College-Garland Campus, 675 W. Walnut St. Only residents of District 3 can vote in the runoff. Animal Shelter Construction Update |
The new Animal Shelter and Adoption Facility reached a significant milestone this month, as the contractor began erecting the steel frame for the new building.
In addition, the contractor has poured the paving for the majority of the parking areas, along with a significant amount of the building foundation.
The new state-of-the-art shelter will include an adoption center, a clinic area, meeting rooms, and a large outdoor play and exercise area.

Summer Reading Program Registration Begins Sunday, May 30 |
Whether you are a kid, teen or adult, you can participate in this year's summer reading program for your age group. In addition to the pleasure you receive from reading a good book, you may also earn prizes!
Registration begins Sunday, May 30. Participants can choose to use Beanstack (online or through the Beanstack app) or visit any Garland Library for a paper Tails and Tales activity card.

Musical Theater Summer Camp in Downtown Garland |
Garland Summer Musicals has partnered with Dallas Young Artists for more than 10 years to provide a musical theater summer camp for children in grades 3-12.
The camp runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 21 through July 9, at The Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St. The camp cost is $600. This year, the camp will produce the hit musical "Big Fish."
"Big Fish" performances will take place Thursday through Sunday, July 8-11.

The Garland Health Department has received reports of 209 active cases out of 28,196 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 445 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each afternoon.

The City of Garland and other community partners are facilitating access to various recovery programs for residents who have been impacted by COVID-19.
Rental assistance is available through Catholic Charities of Dallas. You can check your eligibility and apply for this assistance online or contact a case manager for assistance by calling 214-257-0674. One-on-one meetings can be scheduled, as needed, between noon and 4 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday at Garland's Central Library, 625 Austin St.

DARTzoom Meeting

Dallas Area Rapid Transit is redesigning its bus network. New routes, more hours of service and greater coverage are included in a five-year bus service plan to be implemented in January 2022. A series of 15 meetings, DARTzoom: A New Bus Network, is in motion to collect public input. Each meeting targets a specific coverage area. The Garland meeting will be at noon Monday, May 24. Winter Storm Exemption Deadline
May 28
The Dallas Central Appraisal District (DCAD), in accordance with state law, is offering a temporary disaster exemption following this winter’s devastating storm. This exemption only applies to damage to buildings or structures, not land value. Property owners must apply for the exemption by May 28, 2021. Learn more.
Texas Municipal Power Agency Board Appointment Application Deadline
June 4
City Council is accepting applications for a Texas Municipal Power Agency Board appointment through Friday, June 4. The term starts July 18 and runs through July 18, 2023. To qualify for the position, an applicant must reside in Garland. Applications should include a letter of interest and a resume. Application forms can be found on the City Secretary's page at GarlandTX.gov. They can be submitted to René Dowl, City Secretary, by email to RDowl@GarlandTX.gov or by mail to City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St., Garland 75040.
Graduation Traffic Delays
Through June 26
High school and college graduations will take place at the Curtis Culwell Center through June 26. Naaman Forest Boulevard will experience traffic congestion during the graduations, so expect traffic delays in the area.
