A Note from Scott and Marsha
June 25, 2020
Summer is here! YAY for summer, warm days, blooming flowers and late evenings on the lawn! I don't know about you, but I am ready for some more sand in my toes. And before we know it, we will be ready for all things orange and pumpkin spice lattes!

Now about this picture. Meet Edison Pearce. He is the latest and greatest addition to our family, and we are smitten. He is a Cavapoo, and I have shared about our long-time friendship with a family that breeds. Edison was born from Raven and Bear's litter with Red Top Mountain Puppies. Mike and Heather breed, but these dogs are their family.

This has been quite a process for us. While we know Chip is aging, my concern was not making his last years miserable with a puppy. I have passed over puppies for two years. Since Chip has selective hearing, we decided he may not even hear Edison half the time. The timing finally felt right and a tri-color coat was just adorable.

So far so good. Edison is doing some socialization with our daughter's dogs and her dog, Koa, has assumed a big brother role in training Edison to read dog cues and the ins and outs of life. And the puppy kisses and snuggles are making up for the fact that we are getting up in the middle of the night crate training. It really is like having a baby all over again.  But Chip is loving the middle of the night potty trips! Old dog probs...

It's possible you might meet Edison in the garden center this summer! You never know when he will show up, do a photo shoot with some flowers and offer some unconditional love. Dogs, cats and flowers are pretty much happiness in life. We highly recommend it. If you aren't up for a lot of babysitting or raising a four-legged friend, we have some amazing houseplants that require little water, cough, succulents, cough, or the perfect houseplant that requires you to ignore it. Yes, I can turn any story back to our first love. Bring green home. See you soon!

NATIVE SHADE HYDRANGEA
Unlike the popular blue and pink French Hydrangea, 'Annabell' is a Hydrangea variety native to the United States. 'Annabell' has blooms that can be as wide as a foot across! She will be happiest were she can receive morning sun and afternoon shade. However, you can also plant in a shady spot with dappled sun. In the spring, cut back to about 6 inches in order to encourage lots of new blooms!
DIANTHUS FIREWITCH
Not just pretty in pink, the Dianthus Frewitch can be appreciated for so many other reasons. It is an evergreen perennial that loves full sun. It is fragrant, so it also attracts butterflies (which we love) and it is deer resistant. Dianthus Firewitch is not very tall. It only grows to about 10-12 inches, so it can be used as a border or even a ground cover. If pink is not your style, consider the Mountain Frost White Twinkle Dianthus!
ZELKOVA GREEN MANSIONS
If you are looking for a small tree with unique foliage, this beauty needs to make its home with you. Zelkova Green Mansions has gorgeous variegated green and white foliage that is quite striking. In the fall, you will love the red-orange color that it will add to your landscape. It is a small tree that grows to about 15-20 feet in height and 10-15 feet in spread. It prefers part sun, but can handle full sun as well.
