Update

Greetings NRS Members!

The school year is in full swing, and so is your ACTE Division! Our section leaders are working hard to organize and prepare meaningful events catered to your specific needs. Career and technical education (CTE) works because of our shared connections, visions, and networking, so make sure to look out for upcoming opportunities.

Speaking of events, ACTE's CareerTech VISION is almost here! I am excited to see each of you in Las Vegas, Nevada, this Nov. 30-Dec. 3. More information on registration is listed below. Mark your calendars for our NRS Division events:

  • NRS Division Opening Session, Dec. 1, 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. We will be honoring our NRS Award Recipients, as well as hearing from Keynote Speaker Cheryl Carrier with Ford NGL.
  • Joint Division Hospitality Room, Dec. 1, 10:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. Come take a break during your day and network with the Administration, Counseling and Career Development, and Work-Based Learning Divisions. There will be refreshments, charging stations, and free professional headshots. More details are below. This event is sponsored by Major Clarity.
  • NRS Networking Reception, Dec. 2, 4:45-6:00 p.m. A repeat of the well-attended event from last year. Network in a social and relaxed setting with your peers! We are honored to have Ford NGL as the sponsor for this event.

Our Division is incredibly diverse, and so are the sessions being offered at VISION. Make sure to check your app when the VISION schedule is released. There are sessions for every section!

Check out the new “Section Spotlight” below. I am excited to feature the Support Staff Section, led by Kendra Allen from Oklahoma.

As you can see, there are many opportunities to get involved. Thank you for your shared work to move CTE and ACTE forward. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any needs or concerns related to our division.

Sincerely,

Susan Leon

Section Spotlight: Support Staff

Hello! I am Kendra Allen, the Support Staff Section lead for the NRS Division. I hail from Oklahoma, where I am a member of OkACTE and ACTE.

OkACTE Support Staff Division recently held our annual meeting in conjunction with the Oklahoma Summit in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We welcomed over 130 members from technology centers across the state to the Tulsa Technology Center’s Lemley Campus on Aug. 2, 2022, where we enjoyed various speakers on leadership, professional development as well as personal safety, and awareness by a local news anchor.

The month of August also brought the Support Staff Division officers and selected chairs together for the annual OkACTE Leadership Retreat in southern Oklahoma. This is a wonderful opportunity for networking with other divisional officers and team members.

Speaking of opportunities — four members of the OkACTE Support Staff Division, including myself, along with our advisor and the team from the OkACTE office will be conducting a break-out session, titled “The Value of Membership and Professional Development for Support Staff,” on Thursday, Dec. 1, from 2:00–2:45 p.m. PST, at ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2022 in Las Vegas. If you are attending, please come and join us.

Lastly, I would like to give a shout-out to our Leader and ACTE NRS Vice President Susan Leon. She has brought together the best team and we are looking forward to meeting in person at VISION.
