When cotton was King: In this photo circa 1898, two ladies wait in a wagon at the G.S. Parker Lumber Co. complex, which was located on Main Street between 20th and 22nd streets in Bryan. The lumber yard was on the east side of the complex and the cotton gin operations were on the west side. While new ideas, industries and technology were arriving in Bryan at the turn of the century, the roots of the greater community were squarely based in agriculture. In 1906, more wagon cotton was brought to market in Bryan than any other town or city in the world.
