Local Wildfire Updates
Santa Clara County Fire Department (SCCFD) and Cal Fire continue to closely monitor the fires burning in Santa Cruz and San Mateo Counties known as the CZU Lightning Complex, as well as fires burning in eastern Santa Clara County, known as the SCU Lightning Complex. SCCFD has staffed several additional fire engines and will continue to proactively staff for the near future. To see a damage assessment map, click the following link: SCCFD Damage Assessment

The CZU Lightning Complex is a dynamic incident; currently, the SCCFD has lifted the evacuation order for Santa Clara County. All residents should remain aware, informed, and ready to evacuate. Residents should register for emergency alerts at alertscc.com, visit sccfd.org/rsg for wildfire preparation information, and follow @calfireSCU and @CAL_FIRE.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Los Altos Pest Management
The City of Los Altos has updated the City’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Policy! Restriction on the use of synthetic pesticides and herbicides in City parks has now been added to the IPM. With the uncertainty of synthetic pesticide effects on humans, pets and the environment, the City of Los Altos has now taken a step to addressed this. Other updates to the policy include:
  • Purpose section added
  • Identification of City IPM Manager that oversees pesticide certification with the County and IPM record keeping.
  • Added section addressing collaboration with other agencies

COMING TOGETHER
Have You Filled Out the Census?
You still have through the end of September to do so. 1 in 6 Los Altos residents haven’t filled out the Census. While we have one of the highest response rates in the county at 84.2%, we know we can do better! So spread the word and make sure everyone is counted. Ensure that you are counted and complete the census by visiting www.2020census.gov/en.html
Civil Grand Jury Openings Have Been Relaunched

Adult 50+ Program
Monkey Toy Makers
The Adult 50+ staff is excited to work out a plan for the Monkey Toy Makers to get them up and running. We are planning on setting a date for curbside pickup of the supplies that are needed and looking into setting up an online “Get Together” for their first activity.

Online Coffee Social
The Online Coffee Social that we had on August 19th was a huge success with 100% attendance and participation from all those who attended. We had some suggestions on what our members would like to see in the new senior center. Delivery of coffee/tea and pastry was provided by “Helping Hands”.
