Friends,
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time in the past week to reach out and share their concerns or ideas for short- and long-term solutions after last week's tragedy at Central Station. I appreciate knowing that despite our collective frustration and sadness, there is also a collective passion across all our sectors and industries for downtown to be the best, safest, cleanest, most vibrant community possible. I also want to thank Councilmember Noecker and our public safety and public sector partners for hearing the concerns of downtown workers and residents and temporarily closing the vertical connector at the station. We know this will not solve all our problems, but we need to start somewhere if we hope to find lasting solutions. The Downtown Alliance will continue to advocate for more resources and more action on that block as public safety partners study how any changes may impact the negative behaviors at the station.
On an unrelated and much happier note, I want to extend a huge congratulations to the team at Mairs & Power as they complete their move to Wells Fargo Place this week. We were honored to be invited to their ribbon cutting ceremony and get a tour of the new space. One of several legacy employers in downtown, Mairs & Power has called downtown Saint Paul home for nearly 80 years and we're excited to watch them continue to thrive for decades to come in their new location.
We're taking next week off to enjoy some extra time with family, but don't be too surprised to see us around downtown before the new year, as there's no shortage of ways to get out there and have fun. Do be sure to keep an eye out for winter weather announcements and any potential event delays or cancelations if you are planning a visit.
Stay safe, stay warm, enjoy the holidays and we'll see you in the new year!
-Joe
