Pastor's Reflection
Blessing

Yesterday, we took some time to pray in our service of Release & Renewal. We named losses, we named hopes, and we sought God’s blessing as another year turns. We continue practicing our faith together, even if apart, seeking God’s blessing as we seek to hear and obey the Holy One’s call.

Tomorrow we’ll hear the story of the Magi seeking out the Christ child. We’ll celebrate the Eucharist, the sacrament of Christ’s presence with and within us. What point of light, what distant cry guides our own steps? What gifts have we prepared to offer in response to the in-breaking of wholeness to a broken world?

Worshiping From Home
Confronted with the problems of a global pandemic, already elevated while our region is under stay-at-home orders, we’ve learned of a new variant that’s somehow even more contagious because of its ability to circumvent defenses in the human immune system. So far only a small portion of the population has had access to a vaccine.

For now, we continue to wait until it is safe to begin gathering in-person to worship again. And while we wait, we especially pray for those who have suffered from this virus and for those working on the front lines of healthcare, food supply, and infrastructure to keep us safe.

Shared Home Communion
In order to share Communion together during this time, we are celebrating Eucharist on the 1st Sunday of the month, and sharing in unison on the 2nd Sunday of the month. If you’d like to receive Communion, the drop-in hours at the Church Office are listed below. If you are unable to leave your home, you can request delivery by contacting Rev. Tom.

Office Drop-in Hours:
Monday 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
Thursday 2 p.m.-5 p.m.

Mission Team Update
Your Missions Team recently received a heartwarming thank you from Padre Francisco. He thanks our congregation for the “unconditional support they have had in my ministry.” He states, “The work has been hard, fighting against many things such as the roads which are completely destroyed. We went to a place two and a half hours away from Iglesia Cristo Rey. We tried to get to a place called Las Brisas de Águila, despite the road conditions, and in fact it was very terrifying, because the tires on my car are not so good, and I was swept into the abyss.” (A better translation = ‘ditch’). He states, “Thanks be to God, we were able to reach 51 families who had not been able to receive any help.”

He and his helpers served another 102 families of the “miserably poor” in Danli town. He says that makes a “total of 494 people who were fed this week.”

Note: Padre Francisco was not injured when his car went into the ditch. The car was towed onto the road and is running fine. Your Missions Team will figure out how to help with new tires!
Youth Outreach Thank You
Thank you for your support for our youth and the Community Gift Tree outreach project. Because of your generosity, we were able to provide Christmas Gifts to the 15 children we were assigned, plus an additional five children!

Catalyst Community (formerly Choices for Children) sent the card below to our community.
