A Knight's Tale | January Newsletter
Dear North Side Community School Friends,

I hope that you all had the chance to relax and safely spend time with family and friends over the Holiday Season. We are excited to share an update that gifts for our 2021 year-end campaign continue to come in, and we have raised $54,420 to date! These funds will go to support resources and high quality education for our students for the remainder of the school year.

Thanks to our generous supporters, each student received a gift this holiday season. Our students are now back in full swing of the semester and focused on catching up. The pandemic has truly disrupted learning and our students are experiencing tremendous amounts of learning loss. We have completed mid-year assessments in math and literacy to monitor progress made thus far and devise strategies to ensure our students are meeting goals and performing at or above grade level.

In an attempt to get back to pre-covid school traditions, we have begun to organize monthly student competitions to build community and skills for good sportsmanship. In the last few months we have done kickball tournaments and track and field activities. This week our students are looking forward to participating in a school wide spelling bee.

We hope you will join us at our annual gala on Friday, April 29th. The event will feature students, parents, teachers and alum. Speaking of alum, scroll down to view a feature on North Side alum, Jaden Williams!

Sincerely,
John Grote
Executive Director

Alumni Spotlight: Jaden Williams
Jaden is an alum of North Side Community School who has gone on to attend Proctor Academy - a private boarding school in New Hampshire. He was voted in by his grade-level peers to be one of the freshmen leaders at the school. He also successfully navigated Wilderness Orientation, which involved hiking the White
Mountains (summiting Mt. Willey two days before 9/11.)
Jaden has shared about his academic journey:
"I currently play football, snowboarding, and lacrosse. I was also able to attend the Student Diversity Leadership Conference this Fall. It's my freshman year of high school, and I'm excited for the opportunity to be involved in so many things. I feel that I never would have been able to reach this point in my life without the support and help of North Side, coming from a first-grade kid who couldn't read. I've had a long journey in my life and none of it could have been achieved without the support of North Side."

We love hearing about our alumni and the exciting things they go on to do after attending North Side. We're so proud of you, Jaden!
Holiday Gift Distribution
Our students were so excited to get a toy at our Holiday Gift Distribution! So much excitement was in the air as students got to choose which toy they wanted to take home with them.

Thank you so much to Elite Claim Solutions, Carmody MacDonald Law Firm, John Burroughs Field Hockey Team and all of the wonderful individuals who donated toys and gifts for our students this Holiday season! You definitely brought them some extra joy and excitement for the Holidays!
Substitute Teachers Needed!
North Side Community School is looking for substitute teachers who can help serve our students as needed! Our classrooms are small, and our students love to learn. Please help us spread the word! If are interested in joining our substitute roster, please follow the link below.
