Hello to all of my happy readers!!!

For me, March is a time to catch up on tasks...both personal and professional. I very much love this time of rebirth, if you will. Plants and trees are blooming and there is typically a good bit of rain. And the rain makes me happy when the days are longer. It feels clean and fresh. I LOVE to hike in the woods to the sound of rain falling around me. All this being said, I should take a minute to discuss my allergies. I am allergic to this time of year. All of the flowers, the plants, the trees, the woods... hahahaha! It is a time of tea, local honey, and allergy meds, but I make the best of it. With the days being a little longer and the weather still not fully cooperating, I tend to bake, tidy the home, puzzle, and read--lots of reading to be done.

The store has now completed our inventory, and we have entered into discussions for spring vacations. We do this before the summer rush. I am fully aware that the mask mandate is set to lift on March 21st...We had a team meeting this morning, and, as of now, we intend to continue masking and requiring masking in our shop. I realize that this may not be well-received by all--we just get so busy and have such high numbers of shoppers in the shop in the spring and summer that, at this time, the team feels collectively that this is the correct path for us for now. We will keep you posted. I want to thank you in advance for supporting us, and for continuing to be kind while we make these hard and tough decisions.

This month, I read David Guterson's The Final Case and I liked parts of it. The story behind the book is heartbreaking, sad, tragic, and criminal. The story is set in Skagit County, and a large portion takes place at the courthouse in Mount Vernon. I found other parts of the story not as palatable for me. I think this particular writing style is not my favorite. I hear it is VERY different from Snow Falling on Cedars. I also read Waterbury Winter, by Linda Stewart Henley. She is a local author, and I really do try to read as much local as I can. I found myself rooting for the main character, Barnaby. I wanted him to do well and to find his place. Feel free to come and chat with me about this book. I also finished Ann Patchett's book, These Precious Days (I read this one on my lunch breaks). This is a lovely book of essays by Ann. Some of them I didn't love or I skimmed over... However, for the most part, I loved it. It brought me a great deal of pleasure over my lunch breaks. I would recommend it.

This month over my lunch break I will be reading This Book is Gay, by Juno Dawson. It is information and nonfiction. I am liking it so far. I am also reading Lucy Foley's newest book, The Paris Apartment (she previously wrote The Guest List), and You Can't Be Serious, by Kal Penn. I am looking forward to working through my TBR list this month.

Please stay safe, happy, and healthy...Happy Reading!!
Brandy~

Mask Policy Update-Thank You for Continuing to Wear Your Mask!
While the mandates around mask-wearing are changing in our state, we as a shop
will continue to require customers to wear a mask for the time being. We feel that this is the safest route for our team and for our customers as we move into busier seasons. Thank you for your kindness and cooperation as we transition into this new phase. Please remember that we provide shipping and curbside pickup as an alternative to in-person shopping! We will keep you in books.

This month we are discussing The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot, by Marianne Cronin. Here's what Brandy has to say about the book:
"The cover was so lovely with flowers and beautiful colors--I just wanted to get my hands on it! Once I read the first couple of sentences, I was hooked...The great part of this book is its true sincerity. It is just a book about beautiful, honest relationships. Lenni and Margot end up in the same hospital. Lenni is 16 and Margot is 84. They are both dying, and they meet and develop a friendship. One day they discover that there's 100 years of life between them, and they decide to paint a picture for every year of adventure and life. Just wonderful!"
