Mask Update to SLP Staff & Families
May 14, 2021
Dear St. Louis Park Public Schools Families,
Governor Walz announced that fully vaccinated individuals no longer have to wear a mask. Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) Commissioner Heather Mueller provided the following specific guidance for schools, “Through the end of the 2020-21 school year (last teacher contact day), masks must continue to be worn by everyone inside school buildings or on a school bus.” The Minnesota Safe Learning Plan for 2020-21 and existing face covering guidance for schools and child care settings remain in effect until the end of the school year. Additionally, changes to the state’s pandemic mitigation protocols are being made. We will share additional information as it is released.
Thank you for your continued understanding as well as the support of students, staff and the greater community as we work together to keep our schools safe.

Community Projects
We are at the end of our Community Projects for the year. Here are a few key things to know...
  1. Presentations are going to be captured digitally this year and are due May 19.
  2. A template is available for students who need it (Link to make a copy of that template) but students are encouraged to be creative with how they present the information.
  3. Presentations are going to be shown in a variety of places such as all grade level advisories and possibly the public via OT News.
  4. Presentations are a way for supervisors to gather evidence on the 4 criteria that will be scored (see rubrics on pp. 5-9)
  5. Presentations are opportunities for students to share what they did or didn't get accomplished with their projects and what they learned from the experience.
  6. Here's a link to an abbreviated student Community Project Digital Notebook that has a presentation checklist on page 4.
  7. Students will had their final check-in with supervisors last week. Students were encouraged to present to their supervisors for feedback and then submit their final recorded presentation by this Wednesday.

Please feel free to reach out to me with questions.

Students
Here are some general expectations to help us all end the school year on a positive note.

* Remember that the first and last 10 minutes of class are vital. You are expected to remain in class during these times.
* When you do need to leave class, you must have a yellow pass or a signed agenda pass.
* To ensure safety in our building, adults will ask to see your pass, so have it handy.
* It is important to be in class on time so you are ready to learn.

With COVID restrictions loosening in the community, remember that our Governor's safe-schools plan is still in effect. This means to continue to socially distance and wear a mask at all times. When you are in the cafeteria, remember to remain seated in your assigned seat at all times and keep your mask on when not eating or drinking. Following these guidelines will increase the chances of us returning to a normal school year come fall.

We Love Our Seniors
The Park Community and Schools Foundation is partnering with the SLP High School Senior Planning committee and is selling WE LOVE OUR SENIORS signs. Show your PARK PRIDE for the Class of 2021 by buying and planting a sign for our whole community to see. All proceeds from sign sales and donations are being split between the foundation (which goes right back into our schools) and the other half is helping to fund the FIRST FREE Senior Celebration in SLP history!

We really appreciate your support!!!

Thank you!!!!

Free Groceries for Families Who Qualified for Free or Reduced-Price Meals during the 2020-21 School Year
Families in our district who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are now eligible for additional emergency nutritional benefits offered from the Federal government.

These benefits are provided by Federal “Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer” funds (P-EBT); a temporary food benefit to families with children who would have received free and reduced-price meals if schools were open. These additional benefits may be retroactive to September 2020, depending on when eligibility for free or reduced-meals is determined.

Families who qualify will receive separate electronic grocery cards for each student in the family. The cards would include funds (approximately $6.82/day) for each day your student was in distance learning during the school year. Cards will be mailed from the State of Minnesota in late March 2021.

If you have already qualified for free or reduced-price meals earlier this school year, you don’t need to do anything because your family will automatically receive these new Federal nutritional benefits.

However, if your family income has been affected by the pandemic and you have not completed an Application for Education Benefits (free or reduced-price meal application) for this school year, please complete and submit your application as soon as possible. As mentioned above, these funds will retro back to September 2020.
