Celebrating 40 Years of LIHEAP, 1981-2021
Deadline, Friday, July 30, 2021 at 11:59pm local time.
Suggestions and help for telling your story:
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) assists families with energy costs. This help can be invaluable and even life-saving, especially during summer and winter crisis seasons. We want to know:
- Has LIHEAP helped you or your community endure weather-related crises in 2021?
- Has LIHEAP helped your family keep the lights and heat turned on?
- Did you ever have to choose between paying your utility bill and other important resources, like food or medicine?
- Have you been forced to take drastic measures during the hot or cold seasons to keep your home temperate?
- How did LIHEAP, fuel funds or other resources help your family?
If you are willing to share your story, NEUAC may share it on our website, social media and with others in order to bring awareness to the effects of energy poverty and the benefits of energy assistance programs and most importantly, to celebrate LIHEAP’s 40th birthday!
- Feel free to share anonymized stories of clients helped at your agency
-
Any year in LIHEAP’s history is fair game

Health Insurance Enrollment Coalition
With the goal of increasing health insurance enrollment among Michiganders during the Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment Period, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is asking stakeholders to partner with us to establish a coalition to coordinate efforts.
With expanded and increased subsidies now available, more Michiganders than ever have access to low-cost, high-quality health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. In some cases, these subsidies could provide cost-free coverage for the whole year. By collaborating with stakeholders, we hope to discover innovative ways to improve awareness and accessibility of these newly expanded enrollment opportunities. We offer our Department as a resource in guiding these efforts.
If you, or a designee from your organization, are interested in participating in this new coalition, then please reply with updated contact information. In the near future, DIFS will be in touch to set up a meeting to discuss next steps.
To help spread the word about the current Special Enrollment Period open to all Michiganders, we have created a toolkit ( available here) with social media messages, graphics, a printable flyer, and sample newsletter articles. We will also be hosting virtual town hall events, and would welcome the opportunity to co-host a virtual event with your organization before the August 15 enrollment deadline. If you need assistance accessing the toolkit or if you would like to learn more about the town halls, please contact us at difs-communications@michigan.gov.

Child Tax Credit
The Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan provides the largest Child Tax Credit ever and historic relief to the most working families ever – and most families will automatically receive monthly payments without having to take any action.
For those with children, the American Rescue Plan increased the Child Tax Credit from $2,000 per child to $3,000 per child for children over the age of six and from $2,000 to $3,600 for children under the age of six, and raised the age limit from 16 to 17. All working families will get the full credit if they make up to $150,000 for a couple or $112,500 for a family with a single parent (also called Head of Household). See full details here.
