PROFESSOR PENS COLLECTION OF STORIES
Celebrate Capital’s newest author, Angela Buck, assistant professor of English, as she reads from her recently published book, “Horses Dream of Money.” Buck, along with Liam O’Loughlin, assistant professor of English, and students from the English department also will discuss the future of literature.

Thursday, Sept. 30
3 to 4:30 p.m.
Ruff Memorial Learning Center 202

Buck’s book is described as a “visceral, stark, and deadpan collection of stories that brilliantly fuse humor with horror.” The review continues: “Angela Buck brings a raw energy and witty sobriety to these accounts of human life and connection, drawing on the intimacy of fireside-storytelling, gimlet-eyed revelry in bloodletting, and the marriage of the fantastical with the quotidian.”

A few copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event, or you can buy it through Amazon.

PRAYER LABYRINTH INSTALLED ON CAMPUS
The Fred Meuser Courtyard, located in the Trinity Lutheran Seminary green space along College Avenue, has a new permanent fixture. A grey-stoned prayer labyrinth invites visitors to reflect, meditate, and commune with the Divine as they move through the patterned pathway.

We invite the community to join in the dedication of the labyrinth as the final event of Trinity Days 2021.

Labyrinth Dedication
Friday, Sept. 24
11:30 a.m.

Unlike a maze, you cannot get lost in a labyrinth, and there are no dead ends. Instead, you are invited to walk the bending pathway, representing the twists and turns of life's journeys, knowing they will eventually lead to the center gathering space. From the center, the path will lead you just as certainly back into the world.

Trinity's labyrinth was years in the making. As our community grieved the 2006 death of Pastor Aaron Blankenhorn (Trinity '03, Capital '99), leaders rallied around the possibility of installing a labyrinth in Aaron's honor, but the 2007 financial crisis delayed those plans. Numerous gifts over the last decade, including those from the Stellhorn and Anderson families, breathed new life into the labyrinth dream.

BLAISDELL BLAZES HIS WAY TO OAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
On Tuesday afternoon, the Ohio Athletic Conference announced the first edition of a new season's player of the week. Being recognized for Capital was senior Jack Blaisdell who was tabbed the top defensive player of the week in football. Blaisdell truly lived up to his name and blazed his way into the Defiance backfield all night long last Thursday, helping Capital to a 41-7 win. The win snapped a 14-game dry spell for Cap and was the program's first win since November 2018.
RECORD SETTING PERFORMANCE VAULTS MURPHY TO OAC GOLFER OF THE WEEK
On Wednesday afternoon, the Ohio Athletic Conference announced the first golfer of the week award and the recipient was none other than Capital University's Shane Murphy. Murphy was the medalist at this past weekend's Gatorade Collegiate Invite hosted by the College of Wooster at Zoar Village Golf Course. Not only did Murphy shoot well enough to win the event, he carded the program's second and fourth lowest scores in history. At the end of round one, Murphy submitted a score of 70 and followed it up on Championship Sunday with a 68. His combined score was good for a six under par, 138.
BAILEY LACH EARNS OAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
On Monday afternoon, the Ohio Athletic Conference announced that Bailey Lach was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week in men's soccer. Lach, a senior outside defender for Capital University's men's soccer team, started two games this past week and helped lead the team to a 2-0 record while shutting out their opponent and scoring nine goals in the effort. They are now 4-0 on the year.
