February has quickly come to an end, and ADAO is looking forward to bold and productive actions in the coming months of 2022! Our legal and legislative work, much of which came to fruition over the previous weeks, has become even more important and further confirms that the U.S. needs to ban asbestos importation and use.
Thanks to our ADAO v. EPA legal win, we, along with others have submitted public comments about the Draft EPA Scoping Document for Part 2 Risk Evaluation for Asbestos Under TSCA which will be used to evaluate the risk of legacy asbestos today.
Many women have been integral to actualizing ADAO’s mission and vision. We are celebrating the many women and Warriors who have made their voices heard and actions felt in our International Women’s Day (March 8) blog.
As we prepare for Global Asbestos Awareness Week (GAAW), April 1 -7, we are united in our efforts to educate and engage with communities all over the world. This year, the campaign will include key influencers, experts, and Partners for Prevention featuring facts, art, movies, and more. There will be videos shared in six different languages. Watch for updates from ADAO and your local leaders.
We are working diligently with our Senate champions on the 17th National Asbestos Awareness Week Resolution designating April 1st through April 7th as a week of asbestos awareness and securing the ninth Surgeon General warning statement educating how Americans about the dangers of asbestos and how to prevent exposure.
Each year that we wait for a ban, we lose American lives — and we lose friends. Painfully, as we look back on our 18 years of work, many Warriors have been silenced by asbestos. Dedicated to those who have fought, we celebrate their work and honor their memory as we continue our efforts. Read Lives Lost from Asbestos: The Killer Fiber Remains Legal and Lethal in the U.S.
Our work is made possible by our generous sponsors and donors. Our first 2022 sponsors are the Platinum Simmons Hanly Conroy firm, Gold The Gori Law Firm and Silver Bailey & Glasser Firm. There are limited sponsorship opportunities available - which will be finalized on March 31. Our work is possible thanks to the generosity of sponsors and donors. ADAO is the only independent nonprofit dedicated to education, advocacy, and community efforts to prevent asbestos exposure to eliminate all asbestos-caused diseases.
