Sibling bear cubs share a very close bond and are never far apart. Minutes after their arrival at PAWS, the curious cubs explored every inch of their temporary home at ARK 2000.
PAWS Lends Helping Hand
to Orphaned Bear Cubs
PAWS is caring for three very special orphaned black bear cubs. Sadly, they were found wandering close to people, without their mother. Too young to survive on their own, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) decided to capture the cubs. (Bear cubs naturally remain with their mothers for about two years, learning important survival skills.)

The CDFW approached PAWS and asked if we could care for the cubs, who eventually will be transferred to a facility that will care for them until they can be released back into the wild. Of course, we said yes!

Not only are we helping the cubs, this frees up an enclosure at a CDFW facility for another wild bear in need, such as those injured or burned in this year’s disastrous wildfires.

Our staff is taking every precaution to keep the cubs from becoming accustomed to humans, while providing great care. The Bob Barker Bear Habitat at ARK 2000 is filled with oak trees and native grasses and provides a peaceful setting far from most human activity. We want these little ones to have the best possible chance of survival as wild bears.

PAWS does not receive any government funding for situations like this, nor for any of the rescues we undertake. That’s why we need your help.

Won’t you please make a donation today to support these cubs – and more rescues and happy endings!

Thank you!
