Emergency Collection for Disaster Relief
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has asked that we take up an emergency collection to assist the victims of Hurricane Laura, the California wildfires, and other natural disasters. Your gift will support the humanitarian efforts of Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Relief Services to provide pastoral and rebuilding support to impacted areas. Gifts of any amount are very much needed and appreciated! You can donate online now at bit.ly/EDonateStJohn and choose "Disaster Relief". If using a check, please make it payable to St John Parish clearly marked "Disaster Relief" in memo line. Thank you for your generosity and prayerful solidarity!

Supporting the Broadview-Thomson K-8 Food Program
Friday, September 18th
Food Donation Drop-Off at the Parish & School
Although this year is looking a little different from past years, our support of the Broadview-Thomson K-8 Food Program is more important than ever. There are two easy ways to donate on Friday, September 18th: In conjunction with picking up t-shirts for the Jog-A-Thon, you can drop off non-perishable food at the school between 1:00-3:00 pm. If you are not picking up a t-shirt, you can leave donations in the box outside the door to the parish office from 8 am-Noon. Everyone is invited to celebrate the beginning of the new school year by providing for our neighbors in need!

Grab your backpack and tune in to the live streamed Mass on Saturday, September 19th at 5pm. Fr. Crispin will bless the donations at Mass and your backpacks virtually at home!

Donation Ideas:
* Monetary donations/grocery store gift cards to Broadview-Thomson PTA [a 501 c(3) organization]
* Canned food of tuna, condensed soups, baked beans, chili, Chef Boy-R-D and spaghetti sauce. We kindly request no glass containers.
* Dried food such as tuna helper, mac & cheese, beans and rice, raisins, cup-o-noodle and "just add water" muffin mix.
* Plastic jars of 12oz peanut butter.

The collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development will be taken up next week. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity to help support programs that empower people to identify and address the obstacles they face as they work to bring permanent and positive change to their low-income communities.

Please visit the Archdiocese of Seattle website for online giving options to support this collection.

Jubilee for the Earth
As mentioned last week, we are in the midst of the Season of Creation, where Christians all over the world celebrate creation, God's gift to us all. Pope Francis released a message to the faithful on September 1 that addresses the Season of Creation.

This week I'd like to share the beginning of Pope Francis' Season of Creation message:

I am very pleased that the theme chosen by the ecumenical family for the celebration of the 2020 Season of Creation is Jubilee for the Earth, precisely in this year that marks the fiftieth anniversary of Earth Day.

In the Holy Scriptures, a Jubilee is a sacred time to remember, return, rest, restore, and rejoice. Read more...
