Hot Springs Village continues to keep our members informed on the latest information about COVID-19 locally and in the state of Arkansas. Currently, we are continuing to follow Phase 2 Directives from the Arkansas Department of Health.
Arkansas has climbed past 30,000 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in the last 24. Gov. Asa Hutchinson said that 564 more cases have been detected since yesterday, bringing the state's total to 30,297.
It took just 16 days to add 10,000 more cases since the state hit the 20,000 mark on June 29, which is 20 days after Arkansas hit 10,000 cases on June 9. It took Arkansas 90 days (March 11-June 9) to reach the first 10,000 from the day that the first case was detected in the state.
But, the actual number of cases is not known at this time due to a backlog of tests in the private testing sector. Many people in the state are having to wait more than a week for test results. Read more about the testing backlog problem
here.
Today's testing results detected 48 cases in correctional facilities and 486 in the community.
Of the new cases, 78 of them were in Pulaski County.
The state's hospitalizations also saw an increase of 13 more people hospitalized, bringing that total to 458. Of the 458 people hospitalized, 94 are on ventilators.
There were four more deaths reported since yesterday, bringing the state's total to 335.
As of today, 6,439 cases are considered active with 130 in nursing homes, 979 in correctional facilities and 5,330 in the community.
Hutchinson mentioned that Walmart and Sam's Clubs will require their patrons to wear masks. You can read more about that
here. Hutchinson said he will still stick to his policy of educating instead of enforcement when it comes to wearing masks in Arkansas.
