Celebrating Our Public Servants...
May is a celebration of our public servants, with both National Police Week from May 9 - 15 and National Public Works Week from May 16 - 22. A new banner (as pictured above) has been placed at the Municipal Building to honor both our Amberley Village Police Department and our Maintenance Department. Thanks to each and every one of you for going over and above to serve our residents (see stories below)!
In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement officers. Please join us in showing appreciation for all our Amberley Village officers do to protect our families, homes, roads, and our community!
American Public Works Association (APWA) is proud to announce "Stronger Together" as the theme for the 2021 National Public Works Week. This year's theme challenges members and citizens alike to think about the role public works plays in creating a great place to live. By working together, the impact citizens and public works professionals can have on their communities is magnified and results in the ability to accomplish goals once thought unattainable. Special thanks to our entire Maintenance Department for going over and above every day to make Amberley Village stronger!
A friendly reminder that Amberley Village Tax filing, payment or estimated payments are due on May 17. This is an extension from the annual April 15 deadline in accordance with state and federal tax deadline extensions.

For additional information, visit our updated Tax Resources page on the Village website (see button below).

Questions can be directed to Jenny West, Village Tax Administrator at taxoffice@amberleyvillage.org or by calling 531-0130.
The Village Accelerated Streets Program Has Begun!
With the passage of Resolution 2021-6 and Resolution 2021-7, which authorize the Village Manager to enter into contracts for both engineering and design services and the 2021 Road Program, the Amberley Village Accelerated Streets Program is now underway!

The engineering and design contract was awarded in April, and the timeframe for engineering, survey and design will be between now and January 2022.

Once the engineering and design work is complete, the project will be bid in February 2022 with construction likely beginning in the late Spring of 2022 and concluding in the Fall of 2022.

For an overview of streets included on the project list at this time, see below, or visit www.amberleyvillage.org for a larger view!

JCC Fireworks Enjoyed By All
Residents and visitors to Amberley Village on Saturday, April 17 enjoyed an exciting evening of fireworks to honor Israel's Independence Day. Thanks to the JCC and the Jewish Federation for working with the Village to get information out to residents and neighbors!

Ed Hattenbach Memorial Celebration
Residents are invited to a special Tree Dedication honoring the memory of Councilmember Ed Hattenbach on Sunday, May 16 at 11 am. The Dedication will take place at the end of the Municipal Building Driveway, where a lacebark elm tree will be planted overlooking the tennis courts toward the rear entrance of the building. In addition to the Tree Dedication, a memorial brick has been added to the Plaza in front of the Municipal Building.
Spring Spruce-Up & Property Maintenance
Replacing shingles at Fair Oaks
Repainting poles at the North Site
Planning for updates
Composting chipped wood
Installation of new trash cans
Close-up of shingle replacement
Spring is fully upon us, and Village Maintenance Crews are taking full advantage of the weather to ensure facilities and services are prepped for maximum summer enjoyment! Residents are encouraged to do the same with their properties, and many homeowners have begun making plans to enhance their use of the lush outdoor space afforded them here in the Village.

A number of activities require that you obtain a permit from the Village before you undertake them, including:

Spring is also a time where the Village sees more Property Maintenance violations. The following are just a few of the recommended activities residents can perform to ensure Amberley Village remains pristine and green:

  • Mow/trim high grass and noxious weeds
  • Repair chipped paint and weathered/moldy surfaces
  • Trim shrubs in line of sight on roads to ensure visibility
  • Sweep up grass clippings and debris from gutters and catch basins
  • Place brush at curb in perpendicular, straight lines (see additional guidelines below)

Together, we can keep Amberley Village
a beautiful neighborhood in which to live!
Brush Collection Reminders
Working Together Can Increase Brush Removal for Everyone!
As always this time of year, residents are asked to "brush up!" on their brush collection knowledge to increase the Maintenance Crew's ability to reach all residents in a timely manner. Mixed piles, tangled brush and improper placement can slow Crews down, and even cause injury. Piles left by contractors, which are not eligible for pickup, steal resources from taxpayers and take advantage of this service.

Take a moment to review the informative video at left, and always call the Administrative Offices at 531-8675 with any questions.
If you know someone who is currently not receiving our emails, they may contact Clerk of Council Tammy Reasoner at tpreasoner@amberleyvillage.org with their name and email address, and we'll be happy to add them to our mailing list!

Amberley Village Do Not Solicit List
Amberley Village requires door-to-door solicitors to register at the Municipal Building before knocking on doors. At the time of registration, each solicitor is provided with a Do Not Solicit list, which outlines the addresses of all homeowners who do not wish solicitation upon their property.

Residents wishing to be added to the Amberley Village Do Not Solicit list should contact Dispatch at 531-2040 and provide your name and address for inclusion. Please note that residents can also place a placard reading "No Solicitors" on their private property.

Residents wishing to report violations of the Do Not Solicit List or to verify registration of solicitors in their neighborhood can also reach Dispatch at 531-2040.
Cicadas to Arrive This Month!
Before the publication of our next E-News, it's anticipated the Brood X cicadas will be here! We reached out to cicada expert Dr. Gene Kritsky of Mount St. Joseph University, and he predicts the volume of cicadas this year is expected to match that of 2004. Those in Amberley that year say it was a dense population that lasted for several weeks.

That said, many natives recommend a beekeeper's hat or umbrella to fend off particularly large patches of the super-loud critters. Bear in mind, though, that cicadas are perfectly harmless to humans.

Visit cicadasafari.org via the link below to learn more about these insects, as well as the Cicada Safari app and other resources. You're guaranteed to learn a lot, and just may be able to help others learn, too!

Amberley Village is committed to keeping lines of communication open and accessible between residents and government officials. In this spirit, Amberley Village has incorporated Village-issued email addresses for Councilmembers into its digital communications protocol.

These measures unify the format, making it easier for residents to send a message when an issue comes to mind. The member's first initial followed by last name (no space) @amberleyvillage.org will get your message on its way to members of the Amberley Village Council.
