Middle School
Friends Select School

May 5, 2021

Dear seventh and eighth grade families,

The 7th and 8th grade faculty would like to thank you for all of the care, insight, and support you gave in your feedback regarding the holding of traditional awards in the 7th and 8th grades this spring. Your voices gave us valuable perspectives into our awards process. This has helped the middle school faculty reach a consensus regarding how to move forward this spring and how we might improve this process in the coming school years.

Due to the substantial inequities created by COVID-19 pandemic learning that students have faced, the inability of our faculty to accurately account for these differences and how they have affected the students' work, and the increased physiological and emotional stress put upon students throughout the year, we will not hold awards as usual this spring. Instead, the middle school will take an afternoon off of classes to come together, identify, and appreciate the challenges faced this year, and to celebrate the flexibility, hard work, perseverance, learning, and insight we have all brought to the community. Each student will be recognized separately and receive a keepsake. Then we'll party with some games! iSelect students are more than welcome to attend.  We will release the date for this event in the Thursday FSS Bulletin in the coming weeks.

Thank you so much for your partnership and support throughout the year. We're getting there!

In continued partnership,
