It is important to note that the information in the April Report predates many of the economic impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic. 

From April 2019 to April 2020, the Tulare County Employment Report shows an increase of 9.1%  in the unemployment rate and a decrease in employment of 21,900. Additional highlights from the recent report include: 
  • Tulare County's unemployment rate was 19.0 percent in April 2020, nearly double the year-ago estimate of 9.9 percent. 
  • Professional & Business Services was the only industry with month-over job growth, while Food Services and Drinking Places experienced the largest month-over numerical loss in jobs.
  • Employment decreased by 21,900 year over year, and the labor force decreased by 4,000.

HOW DOES TULARE COUNTY'S EMPLOYMENT RATE CHANGE OVER TIME?

    

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 9.1 percent increase in Tulare County's unemployment rate from April 2019 to April  2020. 

The month over month unemployment rate increased by 4.3 percent, from 14.7 percent in March to 19.0 percent in April 2020.  In data going back to 1990, this is the only time the unemployment rate  has increased in Tulare County from March to April.

HOW MANY JOBS  HAVE COME AND GONE IN THE LAST YEAR & THE LAST MONTH?

YEAR OVER YEAR | A COMPARISON
From April 2019 to April 2020, Educational & Health Services showed the greatest numerical gain with an increase of 300 jobs, while Federal Government showed the greatest percent gain with an increase of 11.1 percent. Farm showed the greatest numerical decline with a loss of 10,800 jobs, while Arts, Entertainment & Recreation showed the greatest percent decline with  a loss of 45.5 percent.




 
MONTH OVER MONTH | A COMPARISON
From March to April 2020, Professional & Business Services showed the only month-over numerical  gain   and percent increase  with an  increase  of 100 jobs and a gain of 1.0%.  Food & Drinking Places showed the largest month-over numerical decline with a decrease of 3, 100 jobs, while Accommodation showed the greatest percent decline with a loss of 44.4 percent.
