New Order Relaxes Face Mask Requirements
and Outdoor Gathering Limitations
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) issued a new Gatherings and Face Mask Order, effective Thursday, 5/6/21, through Monday, 5/31/21, that relaxes some face mask requirements for vaccinated individuals and youth sports following new guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The new order also permits larger outdoor residential gatherings and expanded capacity at large outdoor events like festivals, fairs and golf tournaments.
May 6, 2021 – Gatherings and Face Mask Order
The 5/6/21 order continues to require businesses to prohibit unmasked gatherings of any kind. Additionally, the new order does not change the requirements of MIOSHA COVID-19 Emergency Rules, which mandate employers to require the use of face coverings in shared spaces and when employees cannot consistently maintain six feet of separation.
