ELECTRIC VEHICLES
Will Accelerate Clean Transportation
|
|
Governor Kathy Hochul kicked off National Drive Electric Week here in White Plains by announcing that she has directed the State Department of Environmental Conservation to take necessary regulatory action to require all new passenger cars, pickup trucks, and SUVs sold in New York State to be zero emissions by 2035, find out more here.
White Plains was chosen as the site of the announcement because the city, as recognized by Governor Hochul, has done an extraordinary job in implementing meaningful sustainability initiatives designed to effectively and efficiently lower greenhouse gas emissions, making it the best place to announce these new, critical electric vehicle initiatives.
"The initiatives announced by the Governor," said Mayor Tom Roach, "are further evidence that while many leaders talk about climate change, Governor Hochul acts. We are proud to help advance and support New York's efforts with electric vehicles and electric vehicle charging stations in White Plains, and we look forward to continuing to lead the nation and power a clean energy future."

The Common Council and I are grateful to Senator Shelley Mayer who has generously provided state funding for this important project The Veterans Memorial Garden project is a perfect illustration of how strong partnerships and effective intergovernmental collaboration ensure that the quality of life of our residents continues to be enhanced.”
