Haverford Business Developments - May 2021
HPED Welcomes Novitá Boutique!
HPED welcomes Novitá Boutique, located at 10 E Eagle Road, to Haverford Township! Owner Renee Hyde has taken over the location from the former owner of Renee James Boutique, and plans to open in mid-May with a grand opening event. Renee is currently expanding the shop, and her goal is for the boutique to be a comforting, welcoming space for “retail therapy,” and not be just a quick shopping destination.
Renee is a Havertown native who currently lives in the Manoa section. She returned to Havertown after studying Fashion Design at Philadelphia University (now Thomas Jefferson University) and has been working with fashion since high school, when she was employed at Lizelle’s Bridal. She has also worked at Skirt in Bryn Mawr, was an Assistant Designer for Anthropology, and most recently worked at Renee James Boutique. “Since I was a child,” explains Renee, “I have dreamed of opening a boutique, and I even imagined locations as I would drive around the area!
Senior Citizen's Discounts
HPED has compiled a list of businesses that want to offer discounts to senior citizens on Tuesdays (or on another day if they are not open on Tuesdays). We are updating our brochure in the next week or two, so if you would like to join the list of businesses, please contact Jeanne at jangell@hped.org.

Businesses must have advertised pricing for purchases (retail or restaurants).

HPED Mourns the Passing of Andy Lewis
We are sad to announce the passing of commissioner Andy Lewis, who was a strong supporter of HPED.

In addition to serving on the Economic Development Committee of the board of commissioners, Andy supported HPED's projects and programs with his votes and a generous personal contribution for the past several years.

He was an excellent commissioner and an exceptional human being, and we will miss him!
Use your Keep it Local Gift Card Now!
We have sold over $30,000 in gift cards, and $20,000 of those have not been used yet! Our businesses don't benefit until the cards are used, so make a plan to use yours this week!
The SBA PPP (Paycheck Protection Program) application period has been extended to May 31, 2021. Businesses that have not applied in 2021 for a first draw or second draw (those that took PPP in 2020) will have an extended opportunity to use this program, if desired. PPP is a loan that can convert to a grant if certain criteria are met. PPP can be used for payroll, benefits, mortgage, rent, and utilities. PPP issues that remain a loan and do not convert to grant in 2021 have a term of 5 years with an interest rate of 1%. Sole Proprietors, Independent Contractors, and Self-Employed Persons are eligible this round.

PPP applications are accepted through financial institutions that are deemed “partners” by the SBA and include banks, credit unions and Community Finance providers such as CDFIs (Community Development Financial Institutions). More on the program and an SBA financial partner list can be found here.
