After projects are completed, a good observational before-after study can evaluate interventions and generate learnings that feedback into the next forecast.

This course is about learning to design with the human in mind. The human is the most complex and variable element of the transportation system, but professionals who learn the human's design parameters and how to make infrastructure that is compatible with these parameters will help deliver substantial gains in road safety during the second Decade of Action. The first half of the course provides a theoretical foundation and grounding in understanding human limitations, how humans process information, how humans complete the driving tasks, and how humans end up making errors. The second half translates the theory into practice, helping designers to bring positive guidance, design consistency, and self-explaining roads to their work. The second half of the course will be rich with examples and application-ready lessons.
