MCA is excited to welcome new instructor Sunny Moxin Chen to teach Painting & Drawing Foundations, for grades K-5 and 6-8. Sunny has an MFA in Painting from Boston University and a BFA in Painting & Studio for Interrelated Media from the Massachusetts College of Art & Design. Her work has been exhibited in numerous galleries throughout the US - most recently at the Abigail Ogilvy Gallery & Distillery Gallery in Boston and the Erie Art Museum in PA. Sunny was also selected for the national curated show at Main Street Arts (Clifton Springs, NY, 2022) where she won the Best in Show Award.
Daria Theodora is also new to MCA’s teaching staff, as is her class Let’s Create with Procreate: Digital Drawing and Conceptual Art for students in grades 7-12. Daria has a MFA in Sequential Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her art has been exhibited in a number of gallery shows as well as been featured in several publications, including Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Spectrum, ImagineFX, Illustration Age and Illustration West, among others. Daria was the recipient of the Gold Award in Gallery, Illustration West 55, and also received an Honorable Mention in the Unpublished/Self-Promotional Category at the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles-SILA West 55.
Laurel Smith is back with her popular In Your Hands, Teen Painting & Drawing studio class, which gives youth grades 7 - 12 the freedom to explore and expand their artistic selves. She also returns with some great models to facilitate our adult Figure Drawing Studio. Laurel has been teaching at MCA for 9 years and we're excited to have her back again!
Courtney Spence has been on the MCA staff for several years, teaching ceramics to both youth and adults. This winter she also joins us as Ceramics Studio Manager to oversee all our firings and equipment! Courtney is a professional ceramics artist who's work can be seen in area shows, as well as her Etsy shop.
