Public Meeting on Climate Change set for December 8th
The Wells Board of Selectmen has scheduled a public meeting on climate change for Thursday, December 8, at 6:00 PM in the community room of the Wells Public Library. This meeting offers an unusual opportunity for an exchange of ideas and information about:
  1. The urgency of climate change action
  2. How the Town can protect its infrastructure from future climate impacts,
  3. What additional steps the Town can take to lower its carbon footprint, and
  4. What role Town leaders and officials can play in helping Wells citizens make lifestyle changes to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions: changes such as the purchase of an electric vehicle, the switch to heat pumps for home heating, and the use of renewable energy for home electricity.

This event is free and all members of the public are encouraged to attend. No RSVP is necessary.

Property Revaluation process set to commence
Keeley Lambert, Assessor
During the next 9 months, the Town of Wells will undergo a property revaluation. This process will include the restructuring of the cost tables and upgrading of the depreciation tables. The purpose of a revaluation is to adjust all property values to current levels to ensure equity in assessment.
This will be a collaborative effort, with the assessing staff working with the Vision Appraisal revaluation team of appraisers and data collectors. Vision Appraisal is our current software company and is well known in the field of computerized assessment. Everyone will be carrying identification and will be seen around town in well-marked vehicles.
We encourage every taxpayer to check their assessment information on the town website under Departments, then Assessing, then Property Cards – this will take you to the Vision Appraisal website. If you find any errors, irregularities or just have questions, please contact us at 207-646-6081 for assistance.  If you don’t have internet access, please call us and we will review your information with you. Your input and participation is encouraged.
We will be bringing you periodic reports to keep you, the taxpayer, informed on the progress of this project. The Vision team will be going to the homes that have sold recently within the last two years. If you are one of those taxpayers please be aware of this.

Wells welcomes new Animal Control Officer
Ashley Johnston
"My name is Ashley Johnston, and I am joining the Town of Wells as the new Animal Control Officer. I am excited to be an advocate for the animals in the town and to connect with and meet the members of the community! I grew up coming to Maine every year as a kid and spent my 4 years of college here as well.
I am excited to finally be living up here full time and working within the Maine communities. In my free time, I spend most of my time with my Border Collie and my horse on the farm. During the season, we barrel race all over the state with the Maine Barrel Racing Association and National Barrel Horse Association.
I am really excited to start this new chapter and am so grateful for the warm welcome I have received!"

The Town of Wells is fortunate to have Ashley joining our staff and we are confident she will shine in her new role. Please join us in welcoming Ashley to our town as we wish her all the best!
