Letter from the Principal
We have had a busy time at Trivium with many activities, as usual. The countdown to the holiday is here, and we have much to do before we leave, including final exams for our secondary students.

Our first ever STEM Night was a lot of fun with engaging activities sponsored by families and led by many Trivium students and teachers! We’re very thankful for all the hard work that our science teachers put into making this event a big success. It was certainly a team effort that paid off for the students. We can’t wait to see what next year has in store for us all!

Our elementary curriculum night was a huge success, and we enjoyed seeing our families. We hope that everyone who came was able to learn a little more about our Trivium model, curriculum resources, and the daily life of your students here at Trivium.

This time of year is especially busy planning holiday events. Our PIE members are hard at work to make these last couple of weeks enjoyable for the staff and for our students. We have some fun dress up days scheduled for the last week of the semester. The information is below.

As we move toward the holidays, we are grateful for our students and their families!

Proud to be a Knight,

Curriculum Highlights
We hope everyone had a good time learning about the curriculum resources and the Trivium model at our K-6 Curriculum Night.

In case you missed it, here’s a little more information on our curriculum, model, and materials.

Humanities- The combination of language arts and social studies provides a culturally rich and thematically connected approach.

Montessori Math- Math concepts are modeled in a concrete, hands-on way before moving to abstract reasoning.

Science of Reading- This is a research-based approach to teaching reading by integrating phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.

Latin Roots- Beginning in 3rd grade, the study of Latin roots and affixes provides a solid foundation for vocabulary.

Differentiated Spelling Curriculum- Words Their Way curriculum helps teachers group students by spelling stages based on their instructional need.

Science - Students have experiential learning through hands-on labs and investigations.

Collaboration- Students learn to work together in groups solving problems or sharing ideas to help develop soft skills for the real world.

Oracy- Students learn to communicate effectively in a variety of settings, both formal and informal.

Active Learning- Students of all ages don’t participate in a “sit and get” model. We bring engagement to the classrooms where students can be a part of the learning process.

Book Clubs- Students have a choice in reading by participating in this social reading model. Students apply skills, learn to annotate, and analyze literature in an engaging way.

Writing Workshop- Students have choice in what they write, play with writing, and grow as authentic young authors by applying teacher mini lessons to their writing.

The Showcase
Foreign Language
Our Foreign Language Department has been very busy! High School is becoming more and more proficient in Spanish, learning new vocabulary, grammar and working on speaking skills. Middle School has been exploring different languages around the world, including Spanish, French and German during Foreign Language Club. Each week we focus on a new language! We made posters showing various greetings around the world for the holidays. We also had a visiting Japanese language teacher, where the students were able to create their own guide to the Japanese alphabet. We are excited about the growth of our students this year!
Band
The Trivium Band has been working hard this semester and has made appearances at games, pep rallies, and more!

Our Winter Concert is at 6PM on Dec. 6 followed by the Pep Squad and then Choir. Join us for an awesome evening full of the arts!
Choir
Choir had its first ever Friendsgiving on Wednesday, Nov. 16. We had tons of food and spent time socializing and singing karaoke. A great time was had by all.

On Nov. 28, Trivium Choir had 4 high school students compete in the Pre-Area round of the TMEA All-State Choir Competition. We have two students advancing to the Area round in January! Congratulations, Sarah and Aidan!

Our Winter Concert is at 7pm on Dec. 6 following Band’s Winter Concert. Join us for an awesome evening full of the arts!
Art
Elementary art is wrapping up for this semester for grades K, 3rd, and 4th, at which point they will switch to music for second semester. They have learned a lot and grown in their art skills.

Some of their favorite lessons have been the silly face challenge with third grade where they work in groups and each take turns drawing. The class votes on the best one at the end of class!

Students also love building and creating during studio time. However, one of the most memorable activities Mrs. Devore planned for students was a Glow Art Party! Fourth grade students enjoyed creating Tim Burton Self Portraits, and our kinders love Hank, the art mascot!

Thank you, Mrs. Devore, for making art memorable and special!

Counselor Corner
Prior to Thanksgiving break, Secondary students were tasked during their morning meeting Social Emotional Learning time to create a service project that impacts our school and community. This lesson was specifically designed for our secondary students to "get out" of their comfort zone and promote empathy. These projects were student-lead and planned. Teachers were only there as supervisors. Service projects were held at school and varied from reading to K-4th graders, playing board games with 5th-6th graders, recess with 2nd graders, Homeless teen awareness, thank you notes to staff members, and holiday languages throughout the world. Elementary students were impacted by these projects and requested more interactions from the "big kids." There were lots of smiles those days and we will have additional service projects in February.

Attendance Reminders
Trivium is a public charter school and therefore must follow state mandates regarding attendance.

*Please note- Texas law requires a district to retain students who are not in school at least 90% of the time a class meets. This includes excused and unexcused absences. Also, per state law, after a student acquires 10 unexcused absences, districts are required to file truancy.

When a student is absent, parents must send an email to attendance@triviumacademytx.com on the night before or morning of a student’s absence.

When students are absent, we must have a note from the parent or doctor concerning his/her absence(s) when he/she returns to school. If a student does not have a note when he/she returns to school, an unexcused absence will be recorded for those days. A two-day grace period will be extended to the student to bring in a note. No more than 3 parent notes per semester will be accepted.

Notes must include the following to be accepted:
  •  Student’s first and last name
  •  Grade level
  •  Days and dates missed
  •  Reason for absence(s)
  •  Parent’s signature
  •  Contact numbers
