Your Morgan Hill Weekly 411
News for the Week of September 7, 2020
Happy Labor Day Weekend Morgan Hill!

It is hard to believe that it's already September, and Labor Day is here! Do you know what that means? The holiday countdown begins, as we enjoy these last few weeks of summer!
We hope that everyone is able to enjoy the Labor Day weekend with family or friends safely. There is an excessive heat warning for the weekend, and although being outdoors is best, it may not be possible for some this weekend.

Keep in mind that COVID-19 is still a large concern for us as a community. Bay Area Health Officials offer Tips for Not Spreading COVID-19 During Labor Day Weekend.

Just a reminder that the City of Morgan Hill will be observing the Labor Day Holiday on Monday, September 7, 2020. All public safety services will continue as usual but calls to City Hall and the virtual call center will not be answered. All messages will be returned on Tuesday, September 8th.
The Centennial Recreation Center lobby is open Saturday, September 5th through Monday, September 7th from noon to 5 pm as a Cooling Center for those who do not have air conditioning and need a place to cool off. All the details can be found at the following link: https://conta.cc/3lPpteM

Please remember to check on friends and loved ones who may be vulnerable during the excessive heat. Please check the County's website for heat safety tips and the location of other cooling centers.
In anticipation of high heat over Labor Day weekend, the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has issued a Flex Alert beginning Saturday and extending through Monday, from 3 pm to 9 pm. Consumers are urged to lower energy use from 3 pm – 9 pm. Simple actions like unplugging appliances and turning off lights can contribute to conservation during this time.
Learn more and sign up for alerts at http://www.flexalert.org/.

National Preparedness Month (NPM) is recognized each September to promote family and community disaster planning now and throughout the year. As our nation continues to respond to COVID-19, and locally we are dealing with the reality of wildfires, there is no better time to be prepared. The 2020 NPM theme is: "Disasters Don’t Wait. Make Your Plan Today."

This week we ask you to focus on building your emergency preparedness kit.

  • Ensure your kit is stocked with essential items, including what is needed to protect you and your family from COVID-19.
  • Consider the unique needs of your family (example: families with infants should include formula, diapers, & bottles).
  • Have enough supplies for several days and store items in airtight containers.
  • Help individuals with disabilities prepare for disasters.

Don't Forget Your Mask
With all of the guidelines and requirements in place to protect us from the virus, masks or face coverings and hand sanitizer are an essential items as we venture out of the house.
Carrying an extra mask or face covering and hand sanitizer in your car can help to ensure that you are protected in public at all times.
Get Tested
Santa Clara County continues to test people who have symptoms or do not have symptoms so that we can better understand how the virus is moving in our community.
With over 50 testing sites across the county, there are many choices to meet your needs, including drive-thru, walk-up, and bike lane options.
Try out our newest site where we are testing up to 5,000 people a day at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. Drive, bike, or even walk to get your free COVID-19 test. Ten lanes and enforced social distancing ensure you have the safest experience, while scheduling ahead of time means you are in and out before you know it. Make an appointment today.
