Council Update
The Township will continue to hold meetings of Council and Committees electronically until the end of 2020, to be reviewed in January, 2021. 

Current COVID-19 restrictions will permit a maximum of only 20 persons in the Council Chambers for in person meetings which, for some meetings, is not adequate to accommodate all persons who may wish to attend. Electronic meetings have been held successfully since March, 2020 enabling all Township business to be conducted in a transparent manner. 

Persons wishing to attend a meeting may email the Deputy Clerk no later than 8:30 a.m. on the day of the meeting to receive an invitation to join the meeting by phone or computer. For those who may not be comfortable with electronic meetings, please contact the Clerk or Deputy Clerk who will be pleased to assist you. Council and Committee of Adjustment meetings are posted on the Township youtube channel for public viewing as soon as possible after the meeting.

Finance Department Update
The 2020 Final Tax Bills (including bills for residential and commercial properties) were mailed out to property owners at the end of June and include two (2) installments with due dates of:

Monday, July 27, 2020
Monday, September 28, 2020

If you have not received a copy of your bill, please contact the Accounting Assistant through email or at 705-656-4445 extension 235.
 
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, council has waived all penalty and interest charges on all outstanding property taxes for the remaining months of 2020. This means no penalty or interest will be applied to outstanding taxes until January 1st, 2021.
 
We are still accepting property tax payments and encourage property owners to stay up to date on the status of their property taxes. Below are some of the payment methods available to all ratepayers:

1. Sign up for the pre-authorized payment program with a choice of three payment schedules.

2. Pay your taxes directly through your bank online or through telebanking.

3. Mail a cheque to our office or place it in the drop box located to the right of our main door. If you indicate you would like a receipt , one will be mailed to you.

4. Use our secure, third-party company Paymentus to pay with a credit card (Please note they charge a 1.75% service fee).

Please note that the 2020 MPAC Assessment update for all Ontario properties has been postponed until further notice due to COVID-19. Property assessments for the 2021 property tax year will continue to be based on the fully phased-in current values. This means your property assessment for the 2021 property tax year will be the same as the 2020 tax year, unless there have been any additional changes to your property. For more information, please contact MPAC at www.mpac.ca or 1-866-296-6722.  
Property Taxes are calculated as follows:  
Assessment Value x Tax Rate.
Parks and Recreation


We are looking at gradually re-opening the Community Centres beginning Tuesday, September 8th. The NKCC ice surface may be in no earlier than the end of September. 

Please note: these are tentative dates, and there will be many restrictions. It will not be "business as usual".

North Kawartha Outdoor Sports and Recreational Amenities are open (with restrictions). Individuals are not permitted to play organized team sports, even on fields intended for this purpose, unless they are members of the same household or social circleChandos and Quarry Bay beaches are open with portable toilets, the change rooms are closed.

If any of the recreational amenities are busy, please come back another time, do not overcrowd. Individuals who use the opened amenities are required to physically distance (stay 2 metres or 6 feet apart), unless they are members of the same household or social circle. In unsupervised areas, User Assumes All Risks and Liability.

In compliance with Provincial Government orders, to ensure public safety, provincial parks  have re-opened and are gradually expanding allowable activities and available amenities. To see the latest updates on Ontario Parks and COVID-19, click here.

Municipal Office Closure Remembrance Day

The Municipal office will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, 2020. We will reopen on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 9:00 am.

Garbage  and Recycling

As Garbage and Recycling Collection is deemed an essential service, the Waste/Transfer Stations will maintain 
 regular hours but will not be accepting 
Textiles, or  Re-Use Depot items until further notice. In addition, the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Depot at the Anstruther Transfer Station will remain closed for the 2020 season.

will continue as per the normal schedule. To support social distancing, residents are encouraged to use Curbside Collection. As a result, we have increased the number of free bags at the curb, from one to two. In addition, two more bags are permitted with bag tags affixed, bringing the total number of permitted bags to four. 

The Transfer Station Summer Hours will end on Sunday, September 13th and
Winter Hours will begin on Monday, September 14th. Please note: during Winter Hours the Transfer Stations are closed on Mondays.

Municipal Office Closure Thanksgiving Day

Seasonal Water Testing Courier Service Paused Due to COVID-19

The seasonal water testing courier service at the Township of North Kawartha has been suspended until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Please drop off fresh, cold water samples along with fully completed paperwork. There are two locations available for water sampling drop offs.

1) Public Health Ontario Laboratory at 99 Hospital Drive, Peterborough between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. 705-743-6811.

2) Hastings Prince Edward Public Health located at 1 Manor Lane on Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:30 am-12 pm with drop off in Cooler in front of "The Café". Please call ahead to ensure program is still running, 1-613-332-4555.

Test results will be available by phone or email.

Water bottle testing kits will be made available for pick up Monday to Friday 9:00 am - 4:30 pm, at the North Kawartha Municipal Office. Please call ahead to arrange a pick up time 705-656-4445.

Paper work for testing must include the following:
Full Name, Address of the Sample Location, Date, Location of Water Source, Peterborough Public Health Number is #2255, Hastings & Prince Edward Public Health is #2238

Please note **The Labs will not test the sample if any information is missing or incomplete. **
