Online Service:
The Ancestor of Your Future Happiness
(
10:30 am)
"How are you?" we ask, over Zoom, FaceTime, or just the phone. And we all try our best to give the social grace of an answer, though how can any of us sum up how we are doing right now in the everyday language of conversation? As we tend to our inner worlds, it can be a challenge not to let the anxiety and overwhelm of the outer world take over. This Sunday, let's imagine holding the conversation between the inner and outer landscapes in such a way that when that mundane question comes, we can answer, "I am becoming the ancestor of my future happiness."
Or call in by phone: 1-669-900-6833,

Meeting ID: 444 532 079
Budget hearing will start at noon using same link as the service.

Sunday Circle - 9:00 am
Since Social Distancing means we can't gather in our Fireside Room, we have evolved a Zooming Circle. See connection information below.
As we all adapt to current events we have departed from our previous schedule of topics and leaders and re-purposed our group to simply be a place where, each week, we can
Connect in Community
Share Humor and Hope
Support Creativity and Curiosity
A volunteer leader welcomes participants, lights a chalice, and offers a reading and topic for the day, often one that has evolved from the previous week's conversation. We will have a few minutes of silence for contemplation, and then take turns responding with thoughts or asking related questions. We also make time for shared joys and concerns.
Use the following link for Sunday Circle at 9:00 am:

Please take our short survey to share your ideas about how we can stay connected and active as a community even during Shelter in Place.
All are welcome to chime in, you don't need to be a member to participate.
It should take about five minutes or less of your time. The May 20 deadline will not be extended.

This Week in Religious Exploration
|
One of the ways to address the fatigue and grief we may be feeling is to share a bit of laughter with each other. This month, as we explore thresholds together, why not return to the ageless art of ... knock-knock jokes!
Knock-Knock. Who's there?
Adore. Adore who?
Adore is between you and me. Could you please open up?
Use this riff to have a bit of fun this month and freshen up your family gatherings. There are enough jokes at the link
https://bestlifeonline.com/knock-knock-jokes/
for each family member to choose a few to offer the group. And of course, once your family members discover the fun, they can bring their own! Add to the fun by adding your own twists. How about a contest to tell the WORST knock-knock joke? Or a challenge to make your most stoic family member laugh? Or challenge family members to find a knock-knock joke around a theme, such as dogs, or the weather? My family had an ongoing theme for years of knock-knock jokes around cows when my sons were younger. So I invite you to have fun, and laugh a little. We will get through this, and a little laughter will help.

After Service Discussion - May 24
|
This year's Balazs Scholar, Rev. Elod Szabo, will conduct a Q&A after the service on May 24. This discussion will focus on his message "Preaching From The Housetops." In this message, he talks about how do we, Unitarian Universalists, live our mission, especially given the multitude of issues that are considered when measuring the success of our religious communities.
Rev. Elod Szabo is a Unitarian minister in Urmos, Transylvania. Both his father and grandfather were Unitarian ministers. At Berkeley, he has been studying justice ministry, leadership, and philosophy. He is married and has two children aged seven and four.

Calling All Hobbyists, Artists & Crafters!
|
Do you work in glass or metal? Are you a weaver or basket maker? Is beading your passion? Are you a potter or jewelry maker? Are you a quilter or worker in stone?
The Fundraising/Celebrating Team is planning an Art and Craft Fair as a FUNdRAISER for some time in November (or a date to be determined when we can once again gather together).
First, we want to showcase the creativity of our members and friends. Please let us know how you would like to participate. If you are a painter or photographer and can donate a piece for us to sell, we would be delighted. If you have lots of crafts or could put together some mini succulent gardens or could put several things together with someone else, we will have tables to highlight your creations.
Second, we want to have fun. If finding a unique creation from our vendors isn't enough, we will have soup and baked goods for sale, crafting activities for children and music.
Third, we want to make money. We will seek to expand and round out the talents of our community with participation by artisans from the wider community. Each of our vendors will be asked to donate an item to be offered in a raffle. Do you know someone who would love to join us? Please pass along their name.
Come plan with us. You can give Joan a call at 518-588-0822 or drop her a line at
joanesq93@gmail.com
