A PATH FOR US TO HELP OUR ESSENTIAL FARM WORKING FAMILIES
At our Sunday Service when Dr. Ann Lopez, founder of Center for Farm Working Families presented , we decided we would provide ways to help our farm working families. There is no more work for our field workers at this time of the year until April. These families are struggling to be able to provide the necessities for their families. Dr. Lopez said the most needed items are:
WHAT:
Diapers (sizes 5 & 6)
Baby Wipes
Paper towels
Laundry detergent
Dish detergent
Bath soap
Toilet paper
Shampoo
Please help out our farm worker families by donating any of the items listed.
WHERE:
Please drop off items at UUFSCC, between 7AM to 3PM, Monday through Friday 6401 Freedom Blvd., Aptos (The parking lot is closed after those times with an unlocked chain across the driveway.)
There is a box for collection of these items at the Fellowship
The box is located behind the Fellowship building, under the eaves, next to Reverend Russ's office door
The UUFSCC driveway will be open Mondays- Fridays: 7:00AM - 3:00 PM. Questions, call Lorraine Sandoval (831) 728-3533
Thanks for your help in this endeavor, Lorraine Sandoval, Justice Team, UUFSCC

As part of our exploration to dismantle racism, join Rev. Russ Menk for a discussion about the 2009 TEDGlobal talk that explores the power of stories.
The Danger of a Single Story
Our lives, our cultures, are composed of many overlapping stories. Novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie tells the story of how she found her authentic cultural voice -- and warns of the dangers if we hear only a single story about another person or country.
Please view this video Danger in One Story beforehand and stay after the service on Sunday, December 13 for a conversation.

Announcing a new Adult Religious Exploration Common Read and Online Discussion Series
Decolonizing Wealth: Indigenous Wisdom to Heal Divides and Restore Balance
You are invited to a UUF common reading of Decolonizing Wealth, a provocative analysis of the dysfunctional colonial dynamics at play in philanthropy and finance. Author Edgar Villanueva draws from Native way traditions to prescribe the medicine for restoring balance and healing our divides. After 14 years in philanthropy, Villanueva sees past the field's altruistic façade and into its shadows, where funders reflect and perpetuate the same underlying dynamics that divide Us from Them and haves from have-nots. He advocates for an orientation towards justice to open the floodgates for a rising tide to lift all boats.
Congregants are invited to read the book over the month of December and early January and then join in the online discussion group starting the week of January 10. Meeting dates and time will be published soon. Books are available from online booksellers or local bookstores.

Shared Plate Recipient for December 2020
Hope's Closet
Hope's Closet is a Santa Cruz nonprofit organization which has the goal of providing basic items to local families who cannot afford to purchase them. It's mission is to offer donated clothing, shoes, underwear, blankets, books, and toys to children in need. This year has been a special challenge, with added needs from economic hardship and the fire. Hope's Closet operates with the realization that adequate clothing is not only a physical necessity for a child, but also improves self-esteem and sense of well-being. The agency collaborates directly with parents and organizations such as Head Start, Child Protective Services and Salud Para La Gente. All services at Hope's Closet are provided at no cost to the individual or the agencies it works with. Hope's Closet is a 100% volunteer organization.
