"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep —John 10:11"
by the Reverend Canon Andrew J. W. Mullins
The Good Shepherd is seminal to biblical thought and understanding, yet our society and culture has little connection to shepherds or sheep and we might not fully understand the importance of this spiritual icon. The Old Testament abounds with shepherd heroes…
Beginning Sunday, May 9 at 5 pm
Spring has come to New York City and the COVID infection rates in the City are declining. Thanks be to God! Restaurants, theaters, museums, and other venues are beginning to re-open and we are planning to begin in-person worship again at St. Bart’s on Sunday, May 9 (Mother's Day) at 5 pm. We will begin by welcoming a smaller 25-person congregation to attend this service. It will be important to reserve a seat. Later, we plan to increase numbers gradually to a maximum of 60 persons sometime in June. We will continue to ask all attendees to remain masked through the service and to maintain appropriate social distancing. Learn more and register here.

Decolonizing Christianity
The Reverend Dr. Miguel de la Torre, Professor of Social Ethics and Latinx Studies at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, explains why it is important to de-couple Christianity and whiteness. Professor de la Torre’s new book was released in March. The Forum will be streamed on our website, Facebook Live and YouTube.

The Right Reverend Dean E. Wolfe preaches. Download our service leaflet to follow along with us as we livestream Sunday morning worship from the church on our website, Facebook and YouTube. Read our tips and tricks for worship online.

Please join us at 12:30 pm to celebrate the ministry of the Reverend Deborah A. Lee on her last Sunday as Associate Rector for Discipleship and Community Life at St. Bart’s. After the 11 am livestream service, we will all gather for a special Zoom coffee hour to send her off with our thanks and good wishes.

"Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself for us, an offering and sacrifice to God.”
Ephesians 5:2

If you have given to St. Bart’s—thank you for being a steward of this amazing place! Broad support from our members and guests means there are more pillars to lift us up—and when you give or pledge, you are part of something bigger than each of us individually.

ADULT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
Wednesdays, April 28-May 26, 7-8 pm
The whole world has been living through the trauma of COVID-19 over the past year and some months. How do we emerge in a way that allows us to simultaneously acknowledge the pain we've endured and move forward? Join the Reverend Peter Thompson for a discussion based on Shelly Rambo's wide-ranging book Resurrecting Wounds: Living in the Afterlife of Trauma, which considers Jesus' resurrection, early Christian history, the Protestant Reformation, racial oppression, and militarized conflict—all through the lens of trauma. Please read the Introduction before the first session.

Saturdays from 10-11 am
The popular Saturday morning discussion group continues its look at the collection Bread and Wine: Readings for Lent and Easter. Please read “59. I, Like the Thief” by Leo Tolstoy, “67. At God’s Expense” by Clarence Jordan, “68. Jesus Gives All” by Henri Nouwen, and “70. A New World” by N.T. Wright ahead of the next session.

Tuesdays, April 13-May 11, 6:30-8 pm
Musicologist and singer Kerry McCarthy, PhD, who recently wrote authoritative biographies of Thomas Tallis and William Byrd, outlines the development of English choral music during the pivotal Tudor period.

Thursdays, April 15-May 6, 6:30-8 pm
The Jesus movement arose in the hills of Galilee, but quickly established itself in the large cities of the Mediterranean. Professor Larry Welborn of Fordham University, a St. Bart’s favorite, explores the lives and relationships of the ordinary believers who joined the churches established by the apostle Paul in Ephesus, Philippi, Thessalonica, and Corinth.

Wednesdays at 1 pm
Thoughtful reflection and lively discussion of the upcoming Sunday readings, hosted by the Right Reverend Dean E. Wolfe. To join our Weekly Bible Study online, please contact Liz Gillespie.
