Wortham Theater Center Tree Lighting

Get in the holiday spirit at the annual illumination of Wortham Theater's beautiful Christmas Tree and hear FREE performances by artists from the Houston Grand Opera.

Thanksgiving Parade

The 73rd Annual H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade will take place in the heart of downtown Houston. The event is one of the oldest Thanksgiving Day parades in the country, and features elaborate floats, marching bands, high-flying balloons and more!

This year's Grand Marshal is Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. More information here

Thanksgiving Community Feeding

Ryon Civic Association and Challenge "U" invite you to the community feeding where they will serve until food runs out. More information here

BakerRipley: Turkey Trot

HISD: Redistricting Trustee Public Hearings

The HISD Board of Education is holding public hearings on redistricting. You will be able to give feedback and ask questions. The redrawing of boundaries DOES NOT affect feeder patterns. It only affects the areas that the trustees will represent. Meeting dates and locations here


CFCI Youth Advocacy Training

The Mayors Office of Education and Children's Defense Fund presents the first CFCI Youth Advocacy Training. All youth interested in learning how to advocate for the issues you care about and equip themselves with the tools to take action and impact change in their community are welcomed. BARC: Home For The Holidays

BARC is once again offering Houstonians a chance to help our furry friends find a "Home for the Holidays" with the annual holiday-themed adoption and wellness campaign. Special adoption pricing will be available on select days in November and December. More information here

Health Department Updates on COVID, Monkey Pox, and Flu

COVID-19

Houston's latest 14-day average COVID-19 positivity rate is 4.7% which is a decreasing trend from previous weeks. Houston's CDC COVID-19 Community Level is currently LOW. The following is still recommended:


Monkey Pox

As of Monday, November 21st, there are 707 confirmed Monkey Pox cases in Houston. The threat remains low. However, it is still recommended to take precaution and be aware of symptoms and next steps. 

  • Rash may appear and can be extremely painful
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • People who develop a rash need to avoid direct contact with other people and contact their health care provider as soon as possible.

Flu

The Houston Health Department encourages everyone ages six months and older to protect themselves, their family and community by getting a flu shot now. People can receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines at the same time—in different arms—during a visit to their medical provider. For more information on Flu Shots view here
