“…dream-like production warps you into the world of The Hails.”

“Glitz and glam that comes with the addictive blend of earworm hooks and nostalgic soundscapes that makes you want more – The Hails have gone from a band in obscurity to the tips of something special.”

Today, five-piece indie outfit The Hails release their first single since 2021’s Alive in Strange Ways, the grooving and bounding “Exonerate.” The track arrives just in time for the band’s performance at Miami’s famed III Points festival this weekend. Taking time to refine both their polished sonics and sleek image, the band is sounding off a new era in the form they always wished to take with “Exonerate” – Stream.

Filled with brooding confidence and a relatable swagger, “Exonerate” spins through a story of a deteriorating friendship due to troubles in someone’s love life. The band has become known for their brazen narratives that have an unmatched ability to hold listeners captive.

Frontman Robbie Kingsley said, “When you try to give someone advice in their romantic endeavors, but they bury their head in the sand, it can be really disheartening.” He continues, “’Exonerate’ was inspired specifically by my roommate’s frustrations towards a friend, so truthfully, I’m singing in third person.”

Going back to their breakout hit “Younger,” The Hails have collaborated with Matt Lewin of Magdalena Bay, who is credited as a major influence in the band finding their refined sound through experimentation. “Exonerate” features a distorted Rhodes piano that was not present in the band’s original demo. “We didn't know how much we liked the song until Matt created that opening piano riff. Once he laid that down, it turned from a throwaway song into a focus of our new era,” said Kingsley.

Tomorrow, The Hails will be playing a set at Miami’s iconic III Points festival at 11:30 pm on the Vision Stage. Fans can expect to hear “Exonerate” as well as some of the other new music the band has queued up for the coming months.

ABOUT THE HAILS

Following a string of encounters too strange to be coincidence, Robbie Kingsley, Franco Solari, Dylan McCue, Andre Escobar and Zach Levy came together to form The Hails. Despite first playing in an insular Miami high school music scene, the band officially formed at the University of Florida in Gainesville, turning the tattered carpeting and beer bottle lined shelves of their shitty college house into a distinct, refined sound that is now synonymous with their name.

After graduation, the group made the pilgrimage back to their home of Miami, the city that directly influenced the sound of their early shimmering singles “Younger” and “Stay,” debut EP He Seems Upset (2020), and the subsequent Alive in Strange Ways (2021). Receiving praise from the likes of Ones To Watch, American Songwriter, Lyrical Lemonade, Atwood Magazine and others, The Hails went on to hold court at festivals including WonderStruck, Okeechobee and Playground, interspersed between sold-out shows across the state of Florida. The first half of 2022 also saw The Hails join WILLIS for West and East Coast dates.

Firing the starting pistol of their next chapter, The Hails have released “Exonerate” right on time for their performance at Miami’s III Points. This single is the first in a string of releases that consist of both tour-worn fan favorites and new strokes of inspiration.
