Praying for Our Parish:
A Thank You:
There are not enough words to express my gratitude for the prayers, cards, telephone calls, visits and flowers I received during my cancer treatments. Radiation is complete. On June 7 my doctor said no more treatments are needed now, and maybe forever! Thanks be to God, and thank you North Church for your support through this journey. I will forever hold you in my heart.
— Lela Russell

Angela Brown Returns to North For 11 a.m. Service on June 27
We are blessed to have world-renowned opera singer Angela Brown join us on Sunday, June 27 for our 11 a.m. service.
Ms. Brown will sing a solo commissioned by the Tulsa Opera for the centennial of the Tulsa race massacre. "Inside Is What Remains" was written by female African-American composer/lyricist Nkeiru Okoye for the memorial concert Greenwood Overcomes.
For her second selection Ms. Brown will join the Cathedral Singers on Nancy Wertsch's arrangement of "Blessed Assurance," with Jim Caraher on piano and Heather Hinton on the organ.
The Voices in Accord ensemble will sing "Awake, My Soul" by Elaine Hagenberg, with lyrics from Psalm 57. The Cathedral Singers will begin the morning with Emily Crocker's arrangement of "When in Our Music God Is Glorified," and close our service with Joyce Eilers' "Go Ye Now in Peace."
All of the choral music and Ms. Brown's solo were written by female composers.

North Church's School 43
Uniform Drive Gets Underway
North's School 43 Team is beginning to plan for the 2021-2022 school year, because Indianapolis Public Schools resume classes on Monday, Aug. 2.
Last year was a very difficult year for all the students and staff at School 43, but hopefully this year will be a much brighter one. Jamie Rogers, the school's social worker, has asked if our church could once again help provide the school with uniforms. Please click on the link to see Jamie's list of the clothing items needed most.
There will be a gray bin in the west entrance each Sunday morning from June 13 through Aug. 1 to drop off donations of new clothing. We greatly encourage the congregation to bring their donations to the church this year.
However, if this is not possible an Amazon website has been set up for orders. The deliveries should be sent to Phyllis Groth at 8026 Dean Road, Indianapolis, IN 46240. If there are any questions please email Phyllis.
If you don't have time to shop, monetary donations are always welcome. Checks can be made out to North United Methodist Church, and write "For School 43 " in the memo.
School 43 greatly appreciates our help in providing uniforms.

Care and Nurture
Are 15-Minute Walks Beneficial?
While many studies have shown that small amounts of regular exercise can reap huge benefits for people of all ages and fitness levels, a study published in "The Lancet" found that just 15 minutes of moderate physical activity — like taking a short walk — can increase life expectancy by three years and lower the risk of death by 14 percent. This is the least amount of physical activity you can do to gain any health benefit.
Also, a small study found that taking a 15-minute walk three times a day (after breakfast, lunch and dinner) can help lower blood sugar levels more than a 45-minute walk at another point during the day.

United Methodist Women
Masks Are Available to Pick Up This Sunday
If you ordered a North Church mask from the United Methodist Women, it is available to pick up this Sunday, June 20 by the Meridian Street doors. There are also extra red masks available for purchase for $10 each if you didn’t get one ordered in time or need an extra one.
Please Bring Soup Mix Jars to Church for Recycling
You may return empty soup mix glass jars, rings, canning lids, etc. to the church. Simply leave them on the west entry counter or in the recycle paper container by the Meridian Street doors. We believe in recycling to help the environment. Glass jars take at least 1 million years to decompose. Also, it will increase our ability to help more missions by decreasing our cost to buy new jars. The glass jars are easily sterilized and able to be reused.
And YES to our many requests; North’s UMW will sell the soup mixture this fall!
