THE WEEK THAT WAS.....

JCC RETURNS TO THE SANCTUARY
FOR SHABBAT MORNING SERVICES
FROM YOUR EMAIL EDITOR....

Last Shabbat morning, we returned to the Sanctuary for Shabbat services after a 15-month absence. It was an auspicious and awesome occasion for those who were in attendance. Rabbi Jay was so glad to finally hear the responses to prayer from the congregation. And the congregation was so happy to be in the Sanctuary to see the Torahs, stained glass windows and the Rabbi and their fellow congregants in person. A grab and go bag put a final touch on this joyous Shabbat.

Those in the sanctuary were joined by our Zoom family. Together with the 16 people on Zoom and 24 in the Sanctuary, a modern Shabbat minyan was created. There are of course technical aspects that can and will be improved on but it was a wonderful beginning. This appears to be the wave of the future - incorporating the past with what was learned during the pandemic. And for those who joined us from afar during the pandemic, we will continue to make you a part of the JCC Kahal.

Join us this Shabbat for our first in-person Friday night - "Shabbat in the Lot" and Saturday morning in the Sanctuary.

Building and Grounds Update Report
(what has been happening
in the past year)

The Board of Directors has worked very hard to insure the safety of our building as we prepared for the reopening. Enormous thanks goes to our most capable House & Grounds Chair Rob Van Naarden. Thanks also goes to Howard Fruchterman for continuing to make sure the grounds outside are taken care of.

  • Replaced and installed regular air filters with HEPA filters for each of the 7 HVAC systems, improves air quality. These filters are now changed every other month.

  • Installed Air Scrubbers in each of the 7 HVAC systems. This device uses UV light to kill anything in its path (insects, dust, etc.)

  • Installed 5 touchless hand sanitizer systems stationed throughout the building.

  • Installed 1 touchless temperature reader and hand sanitizer station near the entrance to the building. Please use upon entry.

  • Installed sneeze screens for the Rabbi on the lecterns on the bimah.

  • Installed a Dutch door (opens as a half door on top) to allow congregants to talk to the office staff but not enter the office itself.

  • Also a shelf has been installed on the bottom part of the Dutch door should anyone need a surface to write or sign something.

  • Installed sneeze screens around the desks of the office staff.

  • Put in place a weekly cleaning process for all surfaces, doorknobs and handrails throughout the building.

  • Instituted a cleaning process for after in person services which began on Shabbat morning last week.

  • All bathrooms cleaned thoroughly twice a week.

  •  Mulched the property around the building. Planted flowers in the front pots.

  • Moved the cement benches in the front near the sign to make a more pleasant and safe seating area.

  • Completed installation of security system to include use of fobs (please register for one from Leslie in the office)

  • Completed installation of internet viewable cameras (16 in all) both inside and outside the building for added security. The local Long Beach Township Police has 24-hour access as well.

  • Completed installation of streaming camera in sanctuary for streaming services.

In this Zoom era, we have been able to have a daily minyan at 8:15 AM and at 7:30 PM and on Shabbat. We encourage you to join us on the day of your loved one’s yahrzeit. In the morning, the service is about ½ hour beginning at 8:15 and in the evening at 7:30 until about 7:45. Rabbi will be glad to say the traditional El Malei Rachamim prayer for you, which is recited during the funeral, going up to the grave of the departed, Yizkor remembrance day and other occasions on which the memory of the dead is recalled. ENDOWMENT FUND - NEW INFORMATION !!!!!!!

Herb and Selma z”l Shapiro established the first individual Endowment Fund in memory of his father, as part of the JCC’s Endowment Fund portfolio. Judith z”l & Donald Pripstein joined the Shapiros and established The Pripstein Family Endowment Fund.

As recently reported, Don Pripstein pledged another $50,000 to establish The Judith & Donald Pripstein Endowment Fund.

As a result of Don’s letter, another member has stepped forward to establish an individual Fund. He pledged $50,000 and made a substantial first payment. The announcement of this will take place as soon as all the naming particulars are decided.

A donation of at least $50,000 to the endowment fund will allow the donor to name one of the funds as the donor wishes. All such named funds will be joined together to be part of the Endowment Fund portfolio.

Endowment funds are necessary to ensure the continuation and well being of our congregation. All members are encouraged to help this important effort by contributing to this portfolio, whether as a specific named individual fund, or as a general donation. The donation can be spread over one, two, or three years, and can be paid via check, donation of appreciated stock, wills, or from the RMD of your IRA or 401K account. Your gift to the fund can be sent to the JCC Office. Please mark your check accordingly.

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for? (Audience) Why should they care? (Benefit) What do I want them to do here? (Call-to-Action)

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
