Hello!
During this challenging time, we are all looking for things to be grateful for. How about the modern State of Israel? Fun fact - on this day in 1948, the independent state of Israel was proclaimed as British rule in Palestine came to an end. Look for information within about ongoing programs by our community shliach/emissary Nadav (who has returned from paternity leave).
Now for some important business. In accordance with the by-laws of the Westchester Jewish Council, the
Nominating Committee,
chaired by Jennifer Sokol and including members, Harold Aspis, Lisa Ginsberg, Ellen Salant and Nancy Zaro, is honored to present the proposed slate of the Board of Directors for the Westchester Jewish Council. The slate will be voted on at our
45
th
Annual Meeting on June 10, 2020
on Zoom at 7:30 PM. To view the full Board list, please click
here
. We thank all those that have served and to our incoming board members. Annual meeting invitations will be sent next week.
There are many upcoming events we are sponsoring in the community over the next two weeks including our
Israel Roundtable -
"Lunch and Learn with Nadav - Our Westchester Community Shaliach" on Wednesday, May 20th, a Jewish community update in conjunction with
Jewish History and Heritage month with our County Executive Hon. George Latimer
on Thursday, May 21st at 11:30 am, and an evening of thinking with
Dr. Steven Windmueller,
Emeritus Professor at HUC-JIR, Los Angeles
, as he discusses the present and future status of the Jewish community on May 28th at 7:30 PM. Details may be found within.
We want to close by
thanking
again the brave front-line medical personnel, all those in food production and distribution, refuse collectors, the military who continue to keep us safe, delivery personnel who work to ensure we have supplies, our teachers and clergy/faith leaders who inspire us, journalists and news-gatherers who keep us informed, our elected officials and advisors who have the enormous task of making sense...and then policy...from this virus and of course all the other workers and all the kind-hearted people who continue to toil in the background to keep this world turning, albeit much slower, day in and day out.
The loss of life--each one so precious--cannot be minimized. To all who have been affected directly or less directly we send prayers for healing and comfort.

Just another way that Temple Israel has maintained its connection to its congregants … a “virtual” art show via Facebook Live!
Lisa Klein, Temple Member and Photographer, spent a Sunday morning with congregants via Facebook Live, sharing her photo essay exploring the remains, and the impact felt, of Jewish life and culture in Warsaw, Krakow, and Budapest found over 10 days in April 2019 on a congregational trip in November 2019.
